LOGAN TWP, — During the Logan Township council meeting held on June 18, discussions focused on public facility upgrades, parking guidelines, and public safety.
Mayor Frank Minor discussed the upcoming improvement project set to be made to Township Line Park to update the pickleball and the basketball courts. The council hopes to have the project finished by September in time for Logan Day.
The project is set to have the asphalt redone and the council requested new basketball nets, backboards, poles, and additional seating. The possibility of getting a Logan Township seal placed somewhere on the courts was also suggested during Mayor Minor’s conversation about the renovation.
The township has received one bid on the project from contractor Landberg Construction LLC with the base bid amount set at $394,968. A meeting will be scheduled to finalize the construction timeline for the pickleball and basketball court renovations.
Concerning public safety for the upcoming election in November, Minor addressed Chief Joseph V. Flatley of the Logan Township Police Department asking if there was a possibility to have officers on-site at the polls for extra assurance of residents’ safety and to make sure everything performs smoothly.
Flatley let Minor and the council know that there are some limitations when it comes to police officers being posted at polling stations because it can be deemed as an intimidation tactic.
Municipal Clerk Linda Oswald’s notice of retirement was approved and is set to be effective come the first of July. In addition, the promotion of Logan Township Police Officer Kevin Goetaski to 5th class Patrol Officer was approved, along with the promotion of Officer Zachary Burnham to 7th class Patrol Officer.
The council also approved the renewal of liquor licenses for local bars within the township with the renewal issue being for local businesses: Applebees, Holiday Inn, Liquor Mart, Raccoon Creek Boat Club, Village Pub, and Townplace Suites by Marriott.
Athletic field use was granted to Warriors Baseball which plans to host three weekend tournaments. The tournaments are scheduled for September and October.
