Celebrating Community Spirit and Embracing Local Tradition

As summer gracefully fades into autumn, local townships eagerly prepare to celebrate their annual community themed days, embracing the opportunity to unite residents and visitors for a day of joy and good old community pride. These events are more than just gatherings; they are vibrant celebrations where laughter fills the air, delicious food delights the senses, and local artists and performers showcase the unique soul of each community.

On Saturday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Swedesboro Woolwich Day will transform downtown Swedesboro along King’s Highway into a lively festival of community and fun. Proudly sponsored by Inspira Health Network and the Zallie Community Foundation, this beloved tradition draws upwards of 8,000 participants each year.

The day of fun is set to start with the Dragon Run 5k & 1 Mile Walk, with the opening ceremonies beginning at 8 a.m. and the race kicking off at 8:30 a.m., with the walk starting shortly after the runners take off. This year marks the 18th year of the beloved Dragon Run.

The run is particularly meaningful as it supports the Nathaniel Boerlin Scholarship Fund (NBSF). Nate Boerlin, a talented 16-year-old honor student and percussionist from Kingsway Regional High School, passed away in April 2007 due to glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), an aggressive brain cancer.

All the proceeds from the Dragon Run will benefit The Nathaniel Boerlin Scholarship Fund, which helps fund scholarships for deserving Kingsway Regional High School graduating students who exhibit Nate’s admiration and love for music and learning.

Due to a high volume of participants, it is encouraged to pick up race packets on Friday, Sept. 27 between the hours of 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Kingsway High School Main North. Alternatively, packets can be collected on race day starting at 6:30 a.m. at Swedesboro Borough Hall.

Race bibs will be provided to those participating in the 5k run and will feature chip timing to provide accurate results. Participants are advised to pin their bibs on the front and to keep them flat.

Given the limited parking in downtown Swedesboro, it’s also been highly recommended to participants to utilize the free shuttle bus service starting at 6:30 a.m. and running until 10 a.m. from Kingsway High School to the race start.

There will be water stations, mile markers, and volunteers along the route. After crossing the finish line, participants can head to the post-race food area located near Heritage’s Store, by showing their bibs.

Awards for top runners and age groups will be announced at the stage across from the Borough Hall immediately following the race’s end.

Throughout the day, attendees can explore over 150 booths featuring crafters, local businesses, artisans, and food trucks. Thanks to activity sponsors like Sweetsboro Pastry Shoppe, KW Hometown Keller Williams Realty, Franklin Bank, and Haley’s Homes, the event will offer something for everyone.

All are welcomed to enjoy a car show, a moon bounce, face painting, balloon twisting, and a giant slide. The main stage will showcase performances by local dance troupes, music studios, and the band, Olde City.

Rain or shine, this event fosters a deep sense of community, with free shuttles available from Kingsway High School and Stratton Elementary.

LOGAN DAY

Logan Township Day, set for Saturday, Sept. 21, with a rain date of Sunday, Sept. 22, invites the community to celebrate from noon to 5 p.m. at Township Line Park, 2155 Township Line Road.

This year’s festivities will include a delightful puppet show by the Helping Hands Puppet Troupe, a group of local high school theater students, written and directed by Logan Township resident Frank Ford. The performance will take place at 1:30 p.m., featuring over 25 different puppets, with more than 25 chairs reserved for children under 12.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs to enjoy the show, which promises to be a memorable highlight and is set to last for about a half an hour.

The day will also feature inflatable rides and games for children, a pickleball tournament hosted by the Logan Pickleball Club, local craft and food vendors, and live music from DJ J. Sharp. Free food will be provided to township residents with proof of residency.

Due to very limited parking at Township Line Park, shuttle buses will offer convenient transportation from the Bridgeport/Repaupo areas and the Beckett developments, with on-site parking reserved for Logan Day personnel and handicap accessibility.

SOUTH HARRISON

South Harrison Township Day is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Stewart Park, 67 Ferrell Road. This year’s celebration will be a lively affair with bouncy houses, obstacle courses, games, delicious food, music, and a beer garden.

With enthusiastic participation anticipated, as reflected by the 600 people expressing interest on the township’s Facebook Page, this event promises to be a joyful celebration of community spirit and fun!

As these local township days approach, their impact on the community reaches far beyond the festivities, strengthening the bonds within Gloucester County and helping residents feel truly at home. By organizing these events, the townships create an inclusive space where everyone—from long-time residents to newcomers—can celebrate their shared traditions.

These gatherings foster a sense of belonging and pride, reminding people that they are part of a supportive and welcoming community. The town’s efforts help cultivate a connected, vibrant, and resilient environment where everyone feels valued.

Nonetheless, Swedesboro Woolwich Day, Logan Twp. Day and South Harrison Day are more than just events; they are celebrations of the unity, warmth, and pride that define the heart that resides within these communities. As everyone gathers, these moments of togetherness will be cherished along with the bonds that make these towns truly exceptional.

Mark your calendars and join in the festivities to honor the spirit of these vibrant communities.
