MORRISON — Margaret Morrison, 91. When the going gets tough ….

There was no more dependable person than Margaret. She worked a litany of jobs while she raised her five children: when they were just babies she worked the overnights at Sony Records, was a dental assistant for several area dentists, worked at Valley and Bowe and for Frank Centurion Produce Brokerage and finished out her working career as the Assistant Boro Clerk in Swedesboro. And even in retirement she kept active working at the library and volunteering at Kings Things.

Truth be told, it wasn’t just her own kids who relied on her; she was a mom figure for so many more. Her home was a safe haven for any other family members and friends who needed a place to stay and a warm meal. Whatever she was making is what you were having but you knew for sure that Fridays were for spaghetti and Sunday was for roast beef.

She found her real calling late in life; doting grandmother to her grands and great-grands; Maragaret never forgot a birthday or anniversary. Her happy place was definitely down at the shore; beach all day then off to the casinos at night.

She stayed social as well through the years, participating in Red Hats, Logan Township Seniors and Aged to Perfection Seniors.

She was a 1951 Swedesboro High School Graduate, playing field hockey and cheerleading and was the Homecoming and Prom Queen. Of course, more than just getting a high school diploma, it’s there that the pretty Margaret would meet a handsome guy, the late Walt. They shared a 40-year marriage blessed by five children: the late Robert, the late Rose Marie Matthews, Roxanne Boucher (the late Jeff), Christian and Debra (Tom) Harker; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Lillian Wolf.

DUPPER — William E. Dupper, Sr., 92, a life resident of Swedesboro, passed away Aug. 2, 2024 peacefully at home. Bill had attended Swedesboro High School, was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War and was the owner operator of Duppers Amoco Station in Swedesboro.

He was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish where he was a Eucharistic Minister. Bill was a former Woolwich Township Special Police Officer, a member of the former Lions Club in Swedesboro and maintenance coordinator for the Swedesboro-Woolwich Township School District. Bill was a founding member of Kings Things Christian Thrift Store and instrumental in starting Kings Things Food Pantry.

Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Slusar Dupper, his children, Shirley Dupper (Ray Jordan), Diane (Bill) Stieler and William (Kim) Dupper Jr., five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his parents, J. Edward and Lena Barber Dupper and brother, Kenneth Dupper.

Services were held at the Cheega Funeral Home, 1329 Kings Hwy. Swedesboro. Donations in Bill’s memory to Kings Things, 1402 Kings Highway, Swedesboro, NJ 08085 would be appreciated.

TWISS — Betty-Jane Twiss, 95. Betty was born in Somers Point and raised on a farm in Batsto. Her early education was in a one room schoolhouse, and she graduated from Hammonton High.

She would later move to Camden and work at Whitman Candy, but she yearned to see the world. She’d get that chance after she enlisted in the Army. In 1962 she settled in the town of Swedesboro. From 1975 to 2010, she owned and operated the Liquor Barn in Gloucester with her husband Will. She also retired from Kingsway as a school bus driver.

She bowled at Woodstown Lanes since the 60’s. Earlier years found her on a league team, and she was the first female to roll a 250.

Quiet times were for reading: Betty always had a book in her hand; if they were any good, she finished them in a day, reading day and night. If her TV was on, she’d be checking out the Game Show Channel and Dr. Phil.

One of her earlier jobs was working the counter at Jim-El’s News Agency. A handsome guy named Will would pop in quite often, buying lots of unnecessary things before he got up the courage to ask her out.

She and the late Will shared a 32-year marriage. She is survived by her son, Clinton (June) Proffitt, stepsons, Steven and Lewis Twiss, daughter-in-law, Joan Twiss; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Lake Park Cemetery, Swedesboro.
