SWEDESBORO — At the Aug. 19 Swedesboro Council meeting, a significant update regarding the previously approved cannabis retail facility was addressed, alongside discussions on various community projects.
Discussion centered around Resolutions 77 and 78, which are directly related to the previously approved application for Class 5 cannabis retail facilities in Swedesboro. Resolution 77 has been put into place to replace resolution 67 which had been initially approved allowing for more than one cannabis dispensary to open in Swedesboro.
However now with resolution 77 in place, the decision has been made to only allow one cannabis dispensary to open up in the borough. The application for this dispensary was initially submitted by Jersey Joint Dispensary LLC and supported by the council.
But Jersey Joint Dispensary LLC recently faced issues with state compliance, in regard to another dispensary they are planning to open up in Glassboro under a similar name. This called for a reconfiguration of its LLC to meet the state’s requirements, as a result, the business has been renamed Jersey Joint Dispensary Swedesboro LLC.
As a result of the name change, resolution 78 was adopted to once again show the council’s support of the new Jersey Joint Dispensary Swedesboro LLC application to bring a cannabis facility to the borough.
In addition to the cannabis dispensary discussion, it was also brought to the council’s attention that there has been a string of recent vehicle thefts in the borough. It was reported by the police department that there had been three vehicle thefts reported, with one being located in Woolwich and two in Swedesboro.
Police advised residents to make sure their vehicles are locked and to refer to their Facebook page for updates on the matter.
The Woolwich Fire Company reported that they will be making some upgrades to their facilities. The upgrades are to include the installation of new black insulated doors, replacement of the concrete that runs along the engine bay doors due to cracks, and the firehouse will also be repainted white, which hasn’t been done since 1997.
The possibility of adding a bocce court at Auction Park was also shared. Various designs are under consideration for this addition.
Along with this, designs and conversations are also being had about adding either a floating or permanent dock, along with the restoration of the old boat ramp and a new kayak launch at Glen Echo Park to provide access to Raccoon Creek.
The Council is currently in talks with experts to determine the best course of action, particularly concerning which type of dock will be best regarding tidal patterns of the creek at the Glen Echo Park.

Where is Glen Echo Park?
I don’t think there is anything there yet, but it was originally planned as a launching dock for boats. It is just down from the closed gas station at the intersection of Glen Echo and Kings Highway, along Glen Echo Road.
