Teledyne building comes down as part of Kings Highway Commercial/Residential Project

SWEDESBORO – The planned commercial/residential development on Kings Highway is showing its first sign of happening with the demolition of the Teledyne building on Aug. 12.

The building sits back off of Kings Highway behind the public parking lot and faces Second Street.

FORMER TELEDYNE EMPLOYEES gathered for a picture in front of the building in Swedesboro. Left to right are Carl Shartner of Wallingford, PA, Maria Roberts of Penns Grove, Tim Jowell of Mantua, Angela Powell of South Harrison, and Santo Foti of Swedesboro.

The Teledyne company had been in business there from 1959 to 2012, according to Santo Foti, a former employee. He said that they manufactured plastic laminated tubing for pharmaceutical use for companies such as Ortho and Pfizer. The company name was eventually changed to IntraPac, and the business closed and moved to Indiana.

The area where this building was and the public parking lot in front of it will be part of the Kings Highway Redevelopment Project. The project was approved for 6,500 square feet of retail space and 42 one and two bedroom apartments.

Two homes on Second Street were bought by the Borough and will be demolished and serve as additional parking since the current Kings Highway parking area will no longer be there.
