Morandini guest speaker at SJ Baseball Old Timers Banquet, Nov. 13

GIBBSTOWN — The South Jersey Baseball Old Timers Club will celebrate their 56th annual banquet on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at St. Michael’s Mutual Club, 406 Memorial Ave, Gibbstown, NJ.

Formed in 1968 to honor the Hall of Fame induction of “Goose” Goslin of Salem County, the organization consists of many former ball players as well as enthusiastic fans of the game.

Players include Paul Oland, Dave Hitchner, and Bob Gahrs. All three had long careers and dedication to our game.

Many of our members enjoy watching and going to baseball games. Sometimes they even go on the road with our favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies

The group also supports the Phillies Welcome Staff. This group gives out rally towels, t-shirts, and bobblehead dolls at certain home games throughout the baseball season.

The Welcome Staff is headed by Bill Rieger and his very able assistant, Charles Bryant. Busing is provided by Holcomb Bus. Co.

The banquet this year will feature former Phillies second baseman Mickey Morandini as the guest speaker. Starting at 6 p.m., Mickey will be speaking to the audience. After his speech, he will be available for autographs, photos, and good old-fashioned baseball talk.

There will be a cash bar, many door prizes, and a 50/50 that concludes the evening at 9 p.m. The traditional spaghetti and meatball dinner will be provided by Giovanetti Catering of Paulsboro.

Tickets for our banquet are $40 each. Visit our website www.sjbot.org to purchase your banquet ticket. We offer tables often at a discounted rate.

Checks can be made out to “SJBOT” and mailed to Harry R. Riskie, SJBOT President, 1146 Tatum St., Woodbury, NJ 08096.
