Woolwich wants legal notices on their website

WOOLWICH TWP. – The Woolwich Township Committee approved a resolution urging state leaders to pass legislation to authorize municipalities, counties, school districts, and all local governments to publish legal notices on their own municipal website instead of newspapers.

The resolution is set to be given to Governor Phil Murphy, Senate President Nicholas Scutari, Speaker of the General Assembly Craig Coughlin, Senator John Burzichelli, Assemblymembers Heather Simmons, and Dave Bailey, and the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.

According to the ordinance, even before NJ Advanced Media’s announcement that it was terminating daily print publications in January of 2025, local government officials found it increasingly difficult to comply with the public notice requirements under the law as the media has become almost exclusively digitized.

Publication of notices on their own municipal website will streamline an “antiquated and overly burdensome process and save valuable time, resources, and property taxpayer dollars”.
