SWEDEBORO – The lawsuit brought by The Greenhouse of Swedesboro and Jennifer Baus against the Borough of Swedesboro regarding Baus’s denial of her application for a cannabis retail location, was dismissed on March 25 by Superior Court Judge Benjamin Telsey.
Baus sought to have Swedesboro’s decision overturned regarding the borough’s awarding the borough’s only cannabis retail license to Jersey Joints Dispensary, LLC. Her suit stated that it should be overturned because the borough allowed Jersey Joint Dispensary to file an amended application, arbitrarily reduced the number of licenses allowed in Swedesboro from two to one, and was given the wrong application paperwork by borough officials. The wrong application caused her to submit her application after the awarding of the license to JJD was made.
Baus stated that she will be filing a new complaint. “This is not over by a long shot. The mayor and borough completely railroaded me, and I’m not going to let them get away with this,” stated Baus.
At the time of this writing, the Borough of Swedesboro had not issued any comments, but a press release was expected.
According to a Facebook post made by Baus, “I was accused of creating a conspiracy theory….I have lost all faith in politics and the judicial system today,” Baus stated.
In an effort to publicize her legal case, Baus had posted a billboard reading, “Swedesboro Mayor & Council VOTE AGAINST Local Minority Business Woman.”
“I have gotten way too many messages from people who have had similar things happen to them. I am fighting for myself and everyone else this happened to. I have over 500 emails, texts and supporters.”
Baus is a Swedesboro resident and owner of The Hip Hop Shop. She is also an employee at Spirit Chrysler Dodge Ram in Swedesboro.
