SWEDESBORO — Hosting their first Arbor Day event on April 30, 2016, the Swedesboro Shade Tree Commission (STC) continued to share with everyone of all ages the importance of trees.
The day was kicked off with Mayor Tom Fromm signing the Arbor Day Proclamation. “Trees”, a poem by Joyce Kilmer, along with the story “Why some trees never lose their leaves” came to life as both were read by Swedesboro local Caittlin Mooney.
Of course, the crafts offered were all about trees and to further enhance the theme, Red Bud tree seedlings were taken home by everyone eager to enhance their property and life.
The Swedesboro Auction Lot located on Locke Avenue was given more life as a grove of cedar trees and a donated Cornelian Cherry tree seedling was transplanted. Stop by the Auction Lot to follow the progress of these new plantings.
As with all the programs hosted by the STC, they hope that everyone will share what they learn with others and spread the word on the benefits of trees. Thanks to all for joining the STC and they look forward to seeing you next year.
