47th Annual Living History Weekend, Oct. 8 & 9

mh merchant.inddMULLICA HILL — Mullica Hill’s 47th Annual Fall Open House Living History Weekend is here once again on Oct. 8 and 9.

Over the last 47 years, the town has hosted this living program to thank customers for their support, but to also teach first hand, each generation what the Civil War was like and what a dark time in our history as a nation it was. Many actors hold a personal tie to the event, such as an ancestor who fought in the war.

See actual cannons fired in the war, gun and medical displays, camp life and a battle each day at 2 p.m. promptly. The Union camp will be located at 39 S. Main Street and the Confederates will be camped on Church Street. Tour the camps and talk to soldiers who assume the characters completely.

Stroll the town and enjoy live music, refreshments, food, vendors and open house specials in participating shops. And, back again, for the third year is Harry Potter weekend. Visit the Owlery, Honeydukes for sweets, take a picture under the sorting hat, go on a Harry Potter Scavenger hunt, sip butter beer and listen to the tales of Harry Potter read by Draco Malfoy.

Harry Potter games will take place through town including a costume contest and scavenger hunt. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes in baby, child, teen and adult categories. Judging will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Pumpkin painting, face painting pony rides and more are all set to make it a wonderful family weekend. Pumpkins for sale, fall decor and lovely things for the home will be found up and down the street.

Mullica Hill has seen a great turn around this summer with the opening of five new shops on Main Street and there are a few more tricks up their sleeve.

Lastly, don’t forget the annual Ghost Walk hosted by the Historical Society. A mile long guided tour with real stories experienced in town.

As always they are always looking for vendors. Call 609-685-6915 for more information or to be a vendor. You can also go to www.mullicahill.com.
