DEPTFORD TWP. – Eleven New Jersey organizations, including an event at the Dream Park located in Logan Township, will be awarded a total of $42,000 through the remainder of 2017 in re-grantee funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, via the Gloucester County Cultural & Heritage Commission.
These local arts programs exemplify the ongoing tradition of the New Jersey’s flourishing artistic culture, ensuring strong development for years to come. The majority of the grants will go towards funding community and children’s events, including the City of Woodbury’s Art in the Streets project, the Gloucester County Parks Theatre Program and the Gloucester County Children’s Choir.
Included in this year’s funding will be the Puerto Rican Action Committee. Funding will be used to host a Hispanic/Latino cultural and heritage music festival at Gloucester County’s Dream Park to provide Gloucester County residents with a way to experience culturally diverse music and discover the value of preserving Hispanic/Latino heritage.
The Center for Family Services will receive funding to offer homeless youth ages 13-19 experiences in dance, music and creative writing, providing them with a new way to express themselves and feel accepted under the guidance of an art therapist. By creating art and experiencing the arts through field trips, young people can improve their mental and emotional health while they develop self-esteem.
Funding for the West Deptford Free Public Library will support an array of community-focused workshops featuring a diverse group of performance artists. This series will take place from April – August, 2017 and highlight this year’s theme: Design a Better Community. . . Build a Better World.
Other organizations included in the funding are: the Hispanic Center for Family Services; Music at Bunker Hill; the Sketch Club Players; the Washington Twp. Historic Preservation Committee; and the Woodbury Public Library.
