MICKLETON — Each April, schools across the nation celebrate National Poetry Month. In honor of this literary genre, students at the Jeffrey Clark and Samuel Mickle Schools enjoyed poetry activities not just in language arts classes, but also in library classes, morning announcements, bulletin boards, and student news shows.
As a culminating activity, K-6 students from both schools participated in “Poem In Your Pocket Days” to bring learning outside the classroom walls. On April 29 and 30, East Greenwich students were welcomed into 22 area businesses to read a poem of their choosing. After reading the poem, the students were given a small treat for their recitation.
Through this event, East Greenwich students gained a love of poetry, confidence in public speaking, and a stronger school/community bond.
