Sept. 1 – November 1, 2017
Sept. 1: Incident to a motor vehicle stop for tailgating, police detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted and a quantity of suspected marijuana (packaged for resale), a quantity of suspected crack cocaine (packaged for resale), 3 diazepam pills, 2 oxycodone pills (not in their proper containers), and narcotic paraphernalia were found. The contraband was seized and the driver, a 24 year old Blackwood man, was arrested and transported to headquarters. He was processed and charged with Possession of Under 50g of Marijuana, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substances Without a Prescription, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle, Failure to surrender CDS to a Law Enforcement Officer, and Tailgating. He was subsequently released pending a date in Gloucester County Superior Court.
Sept. 3: Police stopped a vehicle for speeding on Route 130. Upon making contact with the driver, a 28 year old Staten Island, NY man, he was extremely nervous and not acting appropriately. On several occasions he reached between his seats in what looked like an attempt to conceal something. A short time later as he retrieved an item from his pocket, a hypodermic needle cap fell from his pants. He had no valid reason to be in possession of the item. The circumstances gave officers probable cause that criminal activity was ongoing and the man was subsequently searched for contraband. Found on his person were 6 bags of suspected heroin, a bag of suspected cocaine and two hypodermic syringes. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed a hand rolled cigarette containing suspected marijuana. He was arrested and transported to headquarters. Upon arrival, the driver was fingerprinted and photographed and served a summons charging him with Possession of Under 50g of Marijuana, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe and Failure to surrender CDS to a Law Enforcement Officer. He was subsequently released pending a date in Gloucester County Superior Court.
Sept. 3: While checking on a suspicious vehicle, police found the driver to be asleep at the wheel with fresh damage on the passenger side and the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the diver’s breath. Field sobriety tests were then attempted but the driver, a 27 year old Bridgeton man, was not able to perform then. He was arrested for DWI and transported to headquarters for processing. Breath tests were conducted and the male was found to have a BAC of 0.19%. He was charged with DWI in a School Zone, Reckless Driving and Being an Unlicensed Driver. He was also found to be wanted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement as an illegal immigrant. He was turned over to ICE in order to begin deportation proceedings.
Sept. 12: Police responded to the Gastrol for a report of theft of gasoline. At the same time an officer had a vehicle stopped in the area for leaving the lot aggressively. The investigation revealed that the vehicle operated in an aggressive manner was in fact the suspect vehicle. The driver, a 28 year old Pennsville man, was subsequently arrested and charged with theft. He was processed and released pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court.
Sept. 14: A patrol officer observed a vehicle stopped in the lane of travel on Route 130 near the Route 322 interchange. As the officer attempted to speak with the driver, a 29 year old Paulsboro woman, she was not responding and was attempting to steer the vehicle despite the fact that the vehicle was stopped. While attempting to gather information from the driver, several cigarettes were observed in plain view, which had been dipped in a controlled dangerous substance. The cigarettes were subsequently seized. The driver was transported to Inspira Medical Center in Woodbury and a warrant was obtained to secure samples of her blood for laboratory analysis. Charges are pending receipt of lab results for possession of CDS and DWI.
Sept. 14: While on a motor vehicle stop for the driver having a suspended license, police detected the odor of marijuana in the vehicle. A subsequent probable cause search of the passenger’s backpack revealed a quantity of suspected marijuana, a quantity of suspected cocaine, packaging materials and a digital scale. The passenger, a 38 year old Camden man, was arrested for possession of CDS and related offenses. The driver, a 35 year old Camden man, was charged with Driving While Suspended, handed his ticket and released at the scene. The passenger was transported to headquarters where he was fingerprinted and photographed. He was charged with Possession of Marijuana in a School Zone, Possession of Cocaine in a School Zone, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was released pending a date in Gloucester County Superior Court.
Sept. 14: A 2005 Kia Sportage which had previously been reported stolen on Aug. 4 was located in Philadelphia, PA. Same was subsequently returned to the owner.
Sept. 15: While conducting a motor vehicle stop for an inoperable headlight, police learned that the driver was suspended. Passenger information was gathered in an attempt to find a licensed driver to operate the vehicle. The back seat passenger, a 23 year old Salem man, gave officers false information as to his identity in order to avoid arrest for an outstanding warrant from Woolwich Township. He was arrested on the warrant and for hindering his own apprehension. He was transported to headquarters where he was processed and served with a summons for Hindering Apprehension. He was then turned over to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department for transport to the Salem County Jail in default of $750 bail on the Woolwich Warrant.
Sept. 15: Police received a report of theft from the Logan Township Branch of the Gloucester County Library. The investigation revealed that a male entered the Library and removed 14 DVD’s, with a total value of $389.37 from their cases, concealed them on his person and walked out. A review of the video surveillance of the incident was able to identify the suspect as a 27 year old Woolwich resident. He was subsequently arrested and charged with theft. He was processed and released pending a date in Gloucester County Superior Court. The DVD’s were recovered and returned to the Gloucester County Library.
Sept. 15: A 2007 Honda Civic that had been reported stolen on Aug. 27 was recovered in Vineland. No evidence was located to identify the suspect. The vehicle was subsequently returned to its owner.
Sept. 15: A motorist reported a group of juveniles on bicycles blocking the roadway on New Castle Lane and yelling profanities at the occupants of the vehicle. *** Police have seen an increase in this type of activity as well as riding “Wheelies” in the travel lanes of Beckett Road, Center Square Road and High Hill Road. It is recommended that any parents of teenagers engaged in such activity have a pointed conversation about the fact that their behavior presents a serious public safety risk. ***
Sept. 15: Police responded to Tech Data, 1 Technology Dr. for a report of a dispute. A female employee who had been terminated became irate and began throwing things and threatening her supervisor. She had left the scene prior to police arrival but was contacted by phone and advised not to return to the property.
Sept. 16: A 2010 Buick LaCross was reported stolen from in front of a residence on Persimmon Place. The vehicle had been left running and unlocked while the owner was visiting with a family member. It was located in Camden several days later. The vehicle was processed but nothing of evidentiary value was recovered. The vehicle was returned to its owner.
Sept. 17: Police responded to Oak Grove Rd. for a single vehicle motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, the driver, a 37 year old Woolwich woman, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Due to the fact that she was injured as a result of the crash and transported to the hospital, a warrant was obtained to have blood drawn to test for the presence of alcohol. She was charged with Reckless Driving, Using a Cell Phone While Driving and DWI. She was served her summonses and released pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court.
Sept. 22: While investigating a single vehicle crash on Paulsboro Rd., police detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. Subsequent Field Sobriety Tests gave officers probable cause to believe that the driver, a 35 year old Paulsboro man, was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. He was arrested and transported to headquarters. A breath test at police headquarters revealed that his BAC was 0.13%. He was processed and served with summonses charging him with DWI and reckless driving. He was then released to a family member pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court.
Sept. 23: Incident to a motor vehicle stop for speeding, police detected the odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the vehicle. During the investigation the passenger, a 22 year old Mantua man, surrendered a backpack which contained suspected marijuana, a digital scale and a grinder commonly used to prepare marijuana for smoking. He was arrested and transported to headquarters. There he was fingerprinted, photographed and charged with Possession of Under 50g of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was then released pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court.
Sept. 25: Police were dispatched to the Acme, 1619 Center Square Rd. for a report of a fight. Upon arrival it was determined that two drivers were attempting to access the same parking spot in the lot and the first, a 59 year old Logan Township man, began yelling obscenities at the second driver, a 43 year old Logan Township man and his family. The first male ended up using derogatory language toward the family to the point that the second driver punched the other man’s vehicle. The situation was ultimately deescalated and all parties declined to pursue criminal charges.
Sept. 25: Police observed 56 cases of lettuce thrown in a wooded are on Center Square Rd. An investigation revealed that a truck driver from California had thrown the cases into the woods after they had been refused by a customer for being damaged. He was subsequently issued summonses for Criminal Trespass and Illegal Dumping.
Sept. 28: A 20 inch bicycle was stolen from the bike rack at Logan Elementary School, 110 School Lane. Same is described as white with black lettering with an estimated value of $100. Video surveillance shows the bike being taken by three juvenile males but their identity could not be ascertained.
Sept. 29: Police responded to McDonald’s for a report of a suspicious motor vehicle. Upon arrival the occupant, a 25 year old Newark, DE woman, officers observed her to be asleep inside the vehicle with a crack pipe in her hand. A probable cause search was conducted and revealed additional paraphernalia as well as suspected cocaine. After being transported to the hospital by Gloucester County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of an unrelated medical condition, she was transported to headquarters. There, she was fingerprinted, photographed and served a summons charging her with Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was then released with a pending date in Gloucester County Superior Court.
Oct. 8: An Asbury Station Rd. resident reported that someone entered onto his property and stole a Yard Machine wood chipper, valued at $550, from the yard.
Oct. 9: A Mulberry Lane resident reported that overnight, someone set fire to her recycling can. No suspects could be identified.
Oct. 9: Police responded to S & S Auction at 62 Repaupo Station Rd. for a report of a male punching and slapping people on scene. Upon arrival officers located the suspect, a 58 year old Paulsboro man, along the loading dock. When he observed police, the male took a fighting stance and then fled into a wooded area on the property where he tripped over a rock before being taken into custody. He was ultimately charged with Criminal Trespassing, Assault and Disorderly Conduct. He was processed and released pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court.
Oct. 9: An employee at Axis Hair Studio, 509 Beckett Rd., reported that as she was cleaning up the salon prior to leaving for the evening, a man, described as very tall, thin, black male with long, twisted dreadlocks and wearing a white t-shirt with a black “S” on it pulled on the front door attempting to get in. When she grabbed her phone he ran away, entered a black pickup truck and left the area. The truck was unable to be located and no suspect could be identified.
Oct. 10: An employee of Greenyard, 405 Pedricktown Rd., reported that her wallet had been stolen and inside were her identification documents, credit cards and $800 cash. She was provided with information on how to prevent identity theft. No suspect was able to be identified.
Oct. 12: An employee of XPO Logistics, 2810 Oldmans Creek Rd., reported her Samsung Galaxy S7 was stolen from her purse in the ladies room. The value of the phone and case was $450. No suspects could be identified.
Oct. 13: Incident to a motor vehicle stop for speeding, police detected the odor of marijuana in the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed a quantity of marijuana and the driver, a 19 year old Hi-Nella, man was arrested. He was transported to headquarters where he was processed and served a summons charging him with Possession of Under 50g of Marijuana, Failure to surrender CDS to a Law Enforcement Officer and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was released pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court.
