SWEDESBORO — On June 23, the New Jersey Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club will be paying their respect at the gravesite of Brigadier General Louis Henry Carpenter, who was himself a Buffalo Soldier, at the Trinity Episcopal Church new cemetery in Swedesboro.
Carpenter received the Medal of Honor for his actions while serving with the Buffalo Soldiers of the 10th US Cavalry. He served with the 10th cavalry for 13 years primarily in the western United States.
Carpenter is buried in the family plot of the Trinity cemetery, not far from other local notables, former New Jersey Gov. Charles Stratton and Civil War hero General Charles G. Harker, namesake of one of the local elementary schools.
