Aug. 1 – Aug. 31, 2018
Aug. 1: Police conducted a motor vehicle stop for a stop sign violation and careless driving. Upon making contact with the driver, she was unable to provide any of the required documents and provided the officer with her name, address and date of birth. When that information failed to locate anyone by that name in the Pennsylvania or NJ Motor Vehicle Commission records, the officer re-approached her. Ultimately, she provided a Pennsylvania Identification Card with her true identity. She was then taken into custody for hindering her own Prosecution. She was transported to headquarters where she was processed and served summonses for Failure to Stop, Careless Driving and False Information. She was then released pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court.
Aug. 3: Police were dispatched to the Logan Township Senior Citizen Center, 73 Main Street, for a report of burglary. Upon arrival, officers began to check for signs of forced entry at which point two males were seen walking on the property near the rear of the building. They were ordered to stop at which time both males fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, both men, a 19-year-old Bridgeport resident and a 22-year-old Haddon Township resident, were taken into custody. They were transported to headquarters for processing.
Further investigation revealed that the pair had broken into the building and were in the process of trying to set up for an impromptu party when a neighbor saw them and contacted police. Both men were charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, and Resisting Arrest by Flight.
Additionally, the Bridgeport man was charged with Theft. They were released pending a date in Gloucester County Superior Court.
Aug. 6: Police were contacted by Pierce Phelps, 2145 Center Square Road, regarding a late report of burglary and theft. The investigation revealed that on, or about, July 29, someone entered a locked storage area on the property and stole 11 commercial rooftop air conditioning units with a total value of $28,940. The company was not aware of the theft until being contacted by Philadelphia Police who had an investigation ongoing which revealed that their location may have been victimized. The Logan Township Police Department Detective Unit and the Philadelphia Police Department are actively conducting a cooperative investigation.
Aug. 9: Police conducted a traffic stop for a headlamp violation and failing to maintain a lane. Upon making contact with the driver, the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from the vehicle. Further investigation resulted in the driver, a 38-year-old Swedesboro man, being arrested for suspicion of DWI. He was transported to headquarters where he submitted the mandatory breath samples which was analyzed and he was found to have a BAC of 0.13%. He was served with several summonses and released pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court.
Aug. 17: While investigating the report of a dispute at McDonalds, 1701 Center Square Road, police identified the vehicle as being the suspect vehicle from two recent theft of gasoline reports (July 31 and Aug. 16) at Wawa 1700 Center Square Road. Officers gathered identification from the driver, a 45-year-old Bridgeport woman, who made arrangements to make restitution to Wawa for the incidents involving her vehicle. The male passenger, who had no identification in his possession, provided false information as to his identity. He was subsequently identified as a 37-year-old Pennsville man and he was found to have numerous warrants for his arrest. He was arrested and transported to headquarters where he was processed and charged with Hindering Apprehension. He was subsequently transported to Salem County Jail to await court proceedings on the outstanding warrants.
Aug. 19: Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle complaint on Beckett Road near High Hill. As officers were enroute, the vehicle erratically went through the intersection crossing the centerline of High Hill Road and striking a curb then continuing on eastbound High Hill Road with 2 blown tires. The vehicle was able to be stopped in Woolwich Township and officers immediately detected the odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. Police attempted to conduct field sobriety tests on the 50-year-old East Greenwich woman, however she was not able to complete them. She was taken into custody for DWI and transported to headquarters for processing. There, she submitted samples of her breath and her BAC was determined to be 0.30%. She was served summonses for careless driving, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and DWI. As per John’s Law, she was released to a responsible party pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court.
Aug. 27: A contractor completing work on a vacant home reported that over $1,800 worth of tools was stolen during the afternoon hours. The ensuing investigation developed a 37-year-old Pennsville man as a suspect. A summons was generated charging him with burglary and theft. He was arrested on Sept. 5, processed, and released pending a Gloucester County Superior Court appearance.
Aug. 30: An Andrew Court resident reported that unknown actor(s) entered her unlocked vehicle during the overnight hours and removed several credit cards along with $100 cash was removed from a wallet left inside the vehicle. Those credit cards were then used for fraudulent purchases exceeding $1,100. The investigation into the fraudulent transactions is ongoing.
Aug. 30: A Salisbury Way resident reported that unknown actor(s) entered her unlocked vehicle during the overnight hours and removed several credit cards along with $100 cash was removed from a wallet left inside the vehicle. Those credit cards were then used for fraudulent purchases exceeding $1,600. The investigation into the fraudulent transactions is ongoing.
