The event has grown over the years and now Dr. Blaise Glodowski’s goal is to donate $5,000 in services including adjustments, stress and life extension evaluations, and X-Rays (if needed). He also expanded to certified massages by Hand and Stone in Deptford, Reike by specialist Betty Jo Zeno, and blood pressures by a nurse from Inspira.
In addition, food and refreshments will be provided and door prizes have been donated by sponsors such as Sam’s club, Shop-Rite, Domino’s, Botto’s, Gervasi,’s, Mr. Bee’s, Dunkin Donuts, Vesuvios, Century Savings, Bone Fish Grill, Bottle Barn,Advanced Auto Parts, Don & Berts, Rode’s Fire Side, Don Pablo’s, Wal-Mart and many, many, many, more.
The top 10 most needed items of the food bank are: peanut butter and jelly, pasta, spaghetti sauce, pancake mix, syrup, cereal, canned meats, tuna, juice and canned stews.
Glodowski said he has been asked a few times recently since I am embarking on his office’s 30th Annual Community Appreciation Day/Food Drive, how he came up with the idea all those years ago.
“It all started while I was attending chiropractic school in Atlanta, GA. I was fortunate enough to be get my poor student hands on a Bruce Springsteen ticket for his Born in the USA Tour in the mid 1980’s.’ He recalled that it was publicized that he was going to have bins outside the arena for people to bring and drop off canned food for a food bank.
“What a great idea,” he thought. “If each person brought just one can and the arena held 15,000 thousand people that would be 15, 000 cans of food WOW.”
He said he knew that everyone wasn’t going to bring something but knew some people would bring an entire bag so still, that was quite a bit of food. In addition, he also found out, Springsteen personally donated $10,000 to the local food bank in every city he played in. Again, another WOW.
So, a few years later, after finishing chiropractic school and becoming a doctor, Glodowski thought back to that concert and his idea of raising food for a food bank and thought what he could do using his professional degree to do something similar.
“Since I was newly out of school and had student loans to pay back, I couldn’t come close to donating that much money, but the concept of raising food through my office was certainly doable,” he stated.
“All I can say to people that want to donate but don’t know what or how much is to give from the heart. I personally do this because I became a doctor to help people so if I’m able to give them or raise food for them it’s a wonderful feeling,” he said.
People that have never done volunteer work don’t know what their missing, he added.
