WALTHY – Barbara W. Walthy, 73, of Woolwich Township passed away June 9 at Inspira Medical Center, Woodbury Born in Philadelphia, she has lived in Woolwich Township for the past 4 years. Barbara received a Master’s Degree in Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA and had been employed as an editor by Rockwell Collins in Wisconsin. She was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 53 years, George Walthy. Her son Christopher and his wife Laura, her daughters Deborah Kelly, Kathleen and her husband Harry Rosa, her son-in-law Chris Henkel, and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Sharon.
Services were held at the Cheega Funeral Home, Swedesboro. Donations in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Blvd., Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 would be appreciated.

SHOWERS – Veda V. Showers, nee Bennett, 84, of Mullica Hill and Pierce’s Point passed away at home on June 10. Born in Philadelphia, widow of Charles A. Showers, and a resident of Mullica Hill since 1967 and Pierce’s Point from 1995, served as a disbursing clerk in the United States Navy in 1952. Veda was in real estate for 22 years, the last several years with Ott Real Estate in Mullica Hill before retiring in May of 1996. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Mullica Hill, the Harrison Township Golden Age Club, the Harrison Township Historical Society, S.W.I.M. in Wildwood Crest, and a life member of the Pitman Manor Auxiliary.
Surviving Veda are her children Mark A. Showers, Laura Jo Guth, Paul B. Showers, and Ann Datz. She is also survived by her three grandchildren Staci Guth, Daniel Guth, and Jill Showers.

THOMPSON – Edna M. Thompson passed away peacefully on June 24. She was a lifelong Mickleton resident where her home served as the local Post Office for 40 years. Edna displayed dedication and work ethic in serving as Postmaster during these years. She also took great pride in taking care of her home on Kings Highway. She meticulously decorated her front porch and yard with beautiful flowers and bows, changing them to coordinate with each season. Edna was an exceptional cook, often hosting family holiday dinners at her home. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to locations with beautiful beaches. In addition, Edna gave many hours working on the Little Red School House Committee.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Gahrs, and granddaughter, Cheryl Pine. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren. Edna was predeceased by her daughter, Sandra Richardson, grandson Robert Richardson, and brother Dr. Walter Held.

CHEESEMAN – Richard John Cheeseman Sr., 71 years old, resident of Swedesboro (formerly of Carneys Point and Pedricktown) passed away suddenly on June 23 in Wilmington, DE.
Richard was born on May 1, 1943 to parents Willard Franklin Cheeseman and Frances Cullen Cheeseman (Smith). He was a 1966 graduate of The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, earning A Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He immediately went to work as a pharmacist and owner of Cheeseman’s Pharmacy in Penns Grove, where he worked side by side with his father for many years. In 1983 he became employed by Rite Aid Pharmacy in Penns Grove, and then spent over 25 years at The Memorial Hospital of Salem County where he ended his career in April of 2013.
Richard enjoyed being a dedicated father and husband and also enjoyed donating his time to the Penns Grove Carney’s Point Pedricktown Little League where he served as president for several years. He also served six years on the Penns grove Carney’s Point Regional School District Board of Education.
Most recently, Richard enjoyed the simple pleasures of life with his new bride, Barbara Jordan Ragonese, and their combined families. He was an active member of Clonmell United Methodist Church, participating and thoroughly enjoyed the choir while also taking on any role within the church where he felt he could lend a helping hand. He also belonged to senior citizen organizations in Logan Township and Gibbstown.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; three sons, Richard Jr. (wife Barbara), Scott (wife Kim) and Matthew (wife Lisa); three step children, Christine, Kenneth (wife Lori) and James (wife Jenn) as well as a combined total of 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by mother-in-law Ruth Jordan, brothers Robert, Willard, and Bruce as well as sister, Janet.
Richard was predeceased by first wife Susan Carol Cheeseman (Steigerwald), father Willard Cheeseman, mother Frances Cheeseman, brother, Jay, and stepson, Greg Ragonese.

LEDRICK – Deborah Anne Ledrick, 60, of Mullica Hill, has passed away and joined her Mother and Father on June 30 at Inspira Medical Center, Woodbury.
She is survived by husband Fredrick Ledrick, sons Robert Decker (wife Kellie), Michael Decker (wife Michele), daughter Tammy Mattila, and five grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, two brothers, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Deborah was a loving and caring person who always put the needs of others before her own.
A person who enjoyed the simpler things in life. There wasn’t an animal she came across that she did not take in and nurture. She will be missed by all.

McLAUGHLIN III – James “Jim” J. McLaughlin III age 64, of Sea Isle City and Mickleton passed away suddenly on June 30. Jim was a true family man that lived life to the fullest, spending his best times in Sea Isle with Linda, Kristy, Kelli, Kathleen, family and grandkids. Jim’s smile, fun loving personality, and work ethic will always be remembered. Jim was the owner of McLaughlin Construction for over 30 years in Sea Isle. Jim’s work will forever serve as a monument to his dedication to family, friends, customers, and Sea Isle City.

FERRELL – Walter H. Ferrell, 67, of Bowling Green, Ohio, formerly of Mt Royal, passed away July 3.

DANIELS – Claude James Daniels, 91, of Mullica Hill, passed away peacefully on July 3 in Underwood Memorial Hospital, Woodbury. He was born on Dec. 17, 1922 to Claude Daniels Sr. and Jennie Warner. He grew up in Mantua and went to Pitman High School where he played baseball and was the team captain his senior year. After graduating from high school he served in the Navy in World War II. After returning from service, he married Helen Beatrice Kier and they had one daughter, Beatrice Ann. He worked at DuPont in Gibbstown his entire life. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed traveling. He also really enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He was a loving and kind husband, father and grandfather.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Beatrice Ann Stuart and her husband Lewis of Harrisburg, PA. He will also be lovingly remembered by his two grandchildren, Jane Stuart of Huntington Beach, CA and Allen Stuart and his wife Christine and their two children, Bryan and Ella of Hershey, PA.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Beatrice Daniels and his grandson Paul Stuart.

NICHOL – Mary E. Nichol, age 78, of White Post, VA died July 8 in Winchester Medical Center in Virginia following a long illness.
Ms. Nichol was born and raised in Mullica Hill. She was a graduate of Glassboro High School and Glassboro State College (Rowan). She taught elementary education and special needs students for a number of years in Camden County before leaving to help run her father’s farm and her own floral shop in Mullica Hill. In 1980 she moved to Virginia to devote herself to raising and racing horses.
For years she enjoyed success breeding quality horses and racing them throughout the Northeast. Her office was decorated with “win” pictures. She joined the Blue Ridge Hunt and was an impressive figure on her huge white hunter “Heathcliffe”. A supporter of all things equine, she contributed to a number or organizations to benefit the industry and was an early member of the Clarke County Equine Alliance.
Mary was an avid reader and was always well informed on the issues of the day, always with a Republican perspective. A very creative person, she found great pleasure in the arts, as well as playing the organ and piano at home and played regularly at Cedar Creek Christian Church in Zepp, VA where she was a member.
She was predeceased by her parents, Florence (nee Murphy) and Harold Nichol of Mullica Hill and her grandmother Mary Murphy of Wenonah. She is survived by her son Eric Miller of Chicago, cousins Penny and Mark Cipolone of Woodbury Heights, and dear friends Audrey Brown and Christopher Bates of White Post.

CALI – Alfio Cali, age 77, of Repaupo (Logan Township) died July 13 in his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Cali was a farmer and owned Cali Farms in Repaupo. He raised all sorts of produce. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Alfio was a member of the Sons of Italy and served in the US Army.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty (nee Gibison) Cali of Repaupo; his cousins, Alfio and Mary Patane of Gibbstown; sister-in-law Sophia Cali and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Cali was predeceased by his sisters, Sara Featherer, Mary Folker; and brother, Joseph Cali.

REDKOLES – Betty Lou Redkoles, 85. She was a reflection of the farm she lived on: Betty Lou was easy going, steadfast and reliable. Her blue eyes and constant smile could light up any room. Betty Lou was born into the hustle and bustle of city life but was able to make the transition to country living. She worked hard on the farm for many years bunching asparagus and packing tomatoes. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and especially tending to her big red geraniums. Her birthday marked the arrival of tomatoes.
Betty Lou loved and collected Longaberger baskets and pottery and made four trips to the Longaberger factory in Ohio over the years. She could shop till she dropped or at least till there wasn’t any room left in her car. She’d smuggle her purchases into the house after Babe went to sleep. Betty Lou had a place for everything and everything in its place; her home was immaculate. She’d find a little time to relax down in Avalon and Stone Harbor, mostly at the Windrift. Betty Lou’s best times were always with family; she’d drive separately from Babe so she could stay later with the grandkids and she was always up for a sleepover, especially on New Year’s Eve. Her daughter was more of a friend, though she would have to sometimes correct her with an “Oh Margie!” every now and then.
A friend of Betty Lou’s offered her a trade: if Betty Lou took her to the shore for the week she’d reciprocate and take Betty Lou to her family’s farm in South Jersey. Though Betty Lou felt she was getting the short end of the stick, she’d never regret her decision. It’s there that she would meet the love of her life, the late Paul “Babe” Redkoles. She went from being an only child to being a part of the Redkoles family. Babe was one of eight. Their 57 year marriage was blessed by two children, Margie and the late Paul R. She is also survived by her sweet doggie, Bella; loving and cherished granddaughter, Amber Redkoles Almeida and her husband Brian’ loving and cherished grandson, Paul Redkoles and his wife, Shana; loving and adored great grandchildren, Scarlett Winter Redkoles and Madden Paul Redkoles; loving and faithful sisters-in-law Anne Paranzino and Mary Redkoles; loving and faithful brother-in-law Andy Redkoles; adoring nieces and nephews, Linda Baldo, Tom and Kathy Paranzino, John and Alfinia Redkoles, Michael Redkoles, Steven Redkoles, Arleen Zalewski and Eugene and Angela Zalewski; dear and loyal friends, Sandy Finocchiaro, Grace LaPalomento, and Carol Leonetti. She was predeceased by her parents Margaret Ellen and Ellsworth Hackard.

FISH – Jeffrey I. Fish, age 54 of Mullica Hill passed away suddenly on July 15. Born in Detroit, MI he earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State. Jeff worked for WDIV Channel 4 in Detroit and produced many TV shows. Currently he was a Marketing Director for IKEA. Jeff adored his daughters and enjoyed helping them with their music for dance recitals.
He is survived by his wife Audrey Fish (nee Ferguson), two daughters, Alexandra and Amelia, his mother, Francene Fish (nee Parr).

STRIDE – John L. “Jack” Stride, age 82 years, of Mickleton, peacefully passed away on July 17 with his family by his side.
Jack was born and raised in Audubon, NJ and graduated from Audubon High school with the Class of 1949. Following high school, Jack entered the Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. Jack worked for Bell Telephone as a splicer and then later switchman until his retirement in 1991.
Away from work, Jack enjoyed tending to his lawn and garden; working on his boat and fishing; learning about World War II History; and woodworking. Most of all, Jack enjoyed the time spent with his family creating the memories that they will now cherish as his legacy. He will be fondly remembered as a kind man of quiet strength and a great sense of humor.
Jack is the beloved husband of Mary (nee McCann); devoted father of John L. Stride, Jr. (Sarah) and Debra Hawkins (Edward); stepfather of Thomas and James (Carla) McCann; dear brother of Ruth Knetz (William), Barbara Van Hoeck and the late Roy (Estelle) Stride; loving grandfather of Megan, Lyndsey and Erin Stride’ step grandfather of Siobhan, James and Sean McCann; step great grandfather of Dylan. Jack is predeceased by his first wife, Rita (nee Hawkins) Stride.
