WOODBURY — Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced that this year’s Annual Senior Citizen Picnic will feature the theme, “Come Strut with us up Broad Street”.
The picnic will be held on Sept. 10 (rain date Sept. 11), from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Red Bank Battlefield Park in National Park.
Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “I look forward to the Senior Picnic because the energy of the group is really inspirational. I know that with this year’s Mummers theme the seniors are really going to be strutting their stuff.”
Lunch, music and entertainment and dance contests will be presented throughout the day. Freeholder Adam J. Taliaferro said that Gloucester County is home to 51,470 residents aged 60 and older. “The senior picnic has become a great tradition that is educational, fun and a chance for our residents to meet up with old and friends and make new ones too,” Taliaferro stated.
Freeholder Taliaferro is the liaison to the Division of Senior Services. Taliaferro said, “The staff really goes out of their way to make the day special for our seniors and everyone has a great time and gets a chance to get outside, dance, and learn about services and programs that are available to them.”
The picnic is open to residents 60 years and older. Tickets are $2 each and are available at the Division of Senior Services at 115 Budd Blvd, West Deptford and the county’s six Nutrition Sites. The ticket price helps defray the cost of the event, which is funded with the Title III Older Americans Act area grant.
For additional information please contact the Nutrition office at 686-8327. There will not be regular Nutrition sites help the day of the picnic.
