Big Pumpkin Weigh-Off coming to Woodstown, Oct. 10-12

pumpkin web picWOODSTOWN — Giant pumpkin growers and pumpkin enthusiast planted seeds, watered, and fertilized, pampering and burying vines from spring to fall, as they prepare for their moment in the spot light.

Pumpkin growers and backyard gardeners from any state are being invited to bring their heaviest pumpkin out to the South Jersey Pumpkin Show Big Pumpkin Weigh Off on Sunday, Oct. 12 at the Salem County Fairgrounds (735 Harding Hwy.), Woodstown, New Jersey.

If you’re a pumpkin grower, this is a great late season opportunity to show off your prize pumpkin and potentially win a portion of the $4,000 in prize money up for grabs. Pumpkins can be grown in any state and can start arriving at the fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon.  Overnight security will be provided and pumpkins must be left on exhibit until 5 p.m. on Sunday.

All entries will be weighed on a certified scale and pumpkins must be in good sound condition. The contest is free to enter and growers can find full details at www.sjpumpkinshow.com or call 856-765-0118.

The Big Pumpkin Weigh Off is showcased at the South Jersey Pumpkin Show three-day family fall festival, now in its eleventh year. Festival goers will enjoy artists, craftsmen, contests, costumed dog parade, amusement rides, and pumpkin themed activities, Headless Horsemen, Wine Sampling and Fall Home Show.

Free admission and parking is $6.00 a carload. Over 12,000 in attendance are expected and vendors are being sought for one of New Jersey’s Best Fall Festivals.
