The event raises funds to help relieve stresses for cancer patients by providing transportation to and from their oncology appointments and treatments.

This year’s event will take place in conjunction with the inaugural “Swedesboro-Woolwich Parks and Recreation Health, Wellness and Safety Fair.” Wellshire invites the community to participate in a family-friendly 3 mile walk, a 5.5 mile run, or a 75 minute Vinyasa yoga class and make a donation to this worthwhile cause. All contributions go directly to the Greater Philadelphia Cancer Foundation / Barbara A. Colameco Transportation Fund.

The non-profit has provided assistance to numerous cancer patients throughout the Philadelphia and South Jersey region since launching in 2009, when Barbara was bravely battling her own breast cancer and witnessed an unmet need. She was moved to action and continued helping others until she lost her struggle in 2010. Her husband Louis B. Colameco III, Wellshire owner and President, has since continued her mission and raised more than $158,000 for the organization.

Wellshire looks forward to an energized gathering of community when the morning activities culminate at General Charles G. Harker School, located on Oldmans Creek Road, where an interactive education in health, wellness and safety will be offered. Dr. Rene Rubin, Director of Multidisciplinary Tumors at Hahnemann/Drexel Medical School, will be on-hand to provide cutting edge information on cancer detection, prevention and treatment modalities through a unique one of a kind open question-and-answer forum.

The Swedesboro-Woolwich Parks and Recreation Committee is excited to bring area health and wellness providers together for the free event, scheduled to take place inside the school from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., to share with the community details about the top-notch resources available to Gloucester County residents.

Among the activities slated to take place that day are a “Scavenger Hunt” to encourage participants to visit various booths, a “Bike Rodeo” where youngsters can learn tips to ride safely and health screenings.

Any businesses related to health, wellness and safety interested in being involved in the event, as well as healthy food vendors, please contact Dr. Michele Blair at 856.693.6526.
