WEST DEPTFORD — Senate President Steve Sweeney and Deputy Speaker John J. Burzichelli announced the awarding of weatherization funding for low-income residents in Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties.
The $516,260 in funds from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs will go to the Tri-County Community Action Agency to be used to help eligible residents pay their utility bills and to make their homes more energy efficient.
“This grant will help low-income families keep their homes warm in cold weather, cool in hot weather and help pay their utility bills,” said Sweeney. “They will receive the immediate assistance they need and make weatherization improvements that can reduce utility costs by using energy more efficiently.”
The grant is part of the state’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
“The winter storm is a reminder that some of our neighbors and friends can be vulnerable to the harsh winter conditions and can’t afford to keep up with utility bills,” said Burzichelli. “These grants can also be used for emergency assistance for heating and fuel. They serve basic needs that can be critically important for those struggling to make ends meet.”
The Tri-County Community Action Agency, or Gateway Community Action Partnership, serves a wide array of needs for low-income residents in Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties, including energy assistance.
