WOOLWICH TWP. — The U10 South Jersey Warriors Baseball team is on a mission to protect all athletes of Locke Ave Park by donating a cardiac defibrillator to the park.
This began with the news of the tragic accident of the young football player in nearby Salem County when he died after sustaining a sudden blunt non-penetrating trauma to his anterior chest.
This impact can result in immediate cardiac arrest and sudden death from ventricular fibrillation. All studies show that the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator) saves lives in these sports related injuries.
The U10 South Jersey Warriors held a fundraiser and received donations enough to supply Locke Ave. Park with multiple AED’s. Two of the AED’s will be located in central locations within the park, and one AED is being donated to the Kingsway Youth Football Organization for use at their practice fields located at the far end of Locke Ave Park.
The AED’s located in the park will be locked, and will have an attached cabinet full of emergency supplies for use by all patrons of the park. All coaches will have the code to unlock the AED.
Safety Officer Leigh Klein, a Certified BLS/CPR Instructor as well as a Pediatric Sedation Training classes will be held at the Woolwich Municipal building on March 7, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 12 noon for all coaches of teams playing at Locke Ave Park. Cost of the class is $25.
