MULLICA HILL — Fall is in the air & the sound of cannons is resonating throughtout the village. It’s that time of year again when the Mullica Hill Merchants host their 45th Annual Fall Festival on Oct. 12 and 13 from 10 a.m. till 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Step back in time to a Civil War Living History Program. Experience a Civil War Camp life, a weapons display, baking on an open fire, candle dipping as well as medical display and civil war re-enactment. Talk to a soldier and you will hear true stories, as many assume the life of their ancestor who fought in this terrible war. Bring history to life with skirmishes and firing of the canons.
The Union camp is located behind Sisters Gift Shop at 39 S. Main St. The Confederates will be located on Church Street.
This event has been part of Mullica Hill for about 30 years and continues full steam ahead, with the hope of continually educating residents, and remembers our past so we don’t repeat our mistakes. Or so is the thought of Major General John Houck, one of the re-enactors.
Your experience of the Civil War era will be heightened as you listen to music by a Civil War Band. Charles H. Harrison a Local Writer and Historian will be at The Front Porch Antiques to sign his “No Longer Warriors” book based on his Great-Grandfathers experience at Gettysburg.
For a special treat be sure to stop in Amelia’s Tea & Holly for scones and tea. Gathering Room Interiors will be having Harry Potter Story Time on the Veranda, Pumpkin Painting and a Harvest Party in the Back Gardens.
Crafters, food and live music will add to the festivities. On Saturday Friends School will host crafts, live entertainment, food, baked goods and a book sale. Also on Saturday for Vintage Car enthusiasts there will be a Car Show at Susquehanna Bank.
In the evening enjoy a free-guided Lantern Tour of the Union and Confederate camps. For those who love a mystery you may participate, for a fee of $5 in a ghost walk to search for paranormal activity.
