BRIDGEPORT — At their meeting on Sept. 17, the Logan Township Council accepted bids on some of their Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Road Program projects. Council had called for rebidding on these plans because previous bids had come in over budget.
Council received two bids on the FY2018 New Jersey Department of Transportation reconstruction of Commerce Boulevard. They accepted the lower bid of $235,227.70 from American Asphalt. That contract was awarded on the re-bid to American Asphalt as the lowest responsible bidder contingent upon approval of the solicitor, NJDOT, and funding availability.
First time bids were heard on Sept. 10, 2019 for the 2019 Curb Replacement Project. This contract was awarded to Charles Marandino LLC as the lowest responsible bidder.
Two later resolutions awarded the Commerce Boulevard contract to American Asphalt for $229,107.70, and the Curb Replacement Program to Marandino LLC for $213,345.00.
Council also adopted an ordinance that amended the Logan Township Zoning Map to provide for the expansion of the Route 322 Commercial Corridor Zone as recommended by the town’s 2010 Master Plan. The Logan Township Planning Board recommended approval and adoption of the ordinance and adopted it themselves at their previous meeting.
Later Council approved an ordinance that would vacate Ferry Road, and another that established the salaries and compensation of various township officials for 2019. Both were adopted on their second reading after a public hearing.
In other resolutions, Council accepted the resignation of probationary officer Brett S. Blaker
In old business, they approved the Logan Township Volunteer Fire Department’s request for the use of the Township Line Road Park parking lot from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Also, the Logan Township Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. accepted a membership application from Daniel P. Gagliardi.
Council later approved a request for a temporary use permit application from Thomas Davis of R/W Connection, Inc. The application was for the use of a tent for an Open House at 403 Heron Drive, Suite A from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Oct. 3. Other temporary use permit applications were accepted for Keith Dalton of Dalton Farms for the use of two tents from Sept. 5 through Oct. 5 for a Sunflower Festival.
In Council updates, Councilmember Chris Morris said the Dalton Farms sunflowers are highly recommended for people to see. Dalton Farms has nearly 30 acres planted with 18 varieties of flowers.
Councilmember Bernadine Jackson reminded Council and those attending the night’s meeting that Logan Day was coming soon. It was scheduled for noon until 5 p.m. at Township Line Park on Oct. 5. Also, Engineer Annina Hogan mentioned that rumble strips were being removed from Beckett Road shortly.
In his police report, Lt. Joseph Flatley listed four DWI arrests for the local force during the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” statewide crackdown on driving while intoxicated through Labor Day.
Mayor Frank Minor took a moment to thank the Logan Police and Fire Departments and the Women’s Auxiliary for putting together Logan Township’s 9/11 tribute. Minor gave special credit to firefighter Michael Jocavelli, saying, “Jocavelli got Logan Township a piece of history.”
