BRIDGEPORT — At their meeting on Dec. 17, the Logan Township Council began the process of constructing a spray park to be located at the Township Line Park.
A spray park is a zero-depth children’s play area where water is sprayed from upright structures or ground sprays and then is drained before it can accumulate.
Council adopted a resolution that would authorize an agreement with Logan and General Recreation, Inc. for construction drawings and design services of the spray park. Council also authorized Engineer Annina Hogan to put together bid specs and advertise for bids for the Township Line Spray Park project. “With the design of it, there aren’t a lot of vendors out there,” remarked Logan Municipal Clerk Linda Oswald. But bid authorization for the Beckett Road Traffic Calming and Resurfacing was tabled.
Funding was expected to be in place for the Beckett Road plans early in 2020, but the plans are still being fine-tuned right now. Councilmember Art Smith commented that the Township didn’t want to bring the project to a halt if it wasn’t designed the way they wanted.
Elsewhere, in his Police report, Logan Township Police Captain Joseph Flatley told Council about a commercial burglary that took place in November in the area. Officers answered a theft call from ANS Services on Heron Drive. The report said that someone broke into several work vehicles and stole more than $13,000 in tools and equipment.
Through a police investigation, a man from Carney’s Point and another man from Salem were charged with trespassing, theft and burglary. Much of the items were recovered.
Flatley said that officers had also assisted in putting out a house fire in the Hidden Creek development, and had a 7-minute response time. The Logan Fire Company and EMT’s also responded.
In resolutions, Council approved the promotion of Officer Eric Surrency to Patrol Officer 7th Class. Captain Flatley assured Logan Township Mayor Frank Minor that Surrency has met all the qualifications for the position. Logan Township added two new officers, Shaune Collins and Officer Sukhjinder Singh, at Logan’s Dec. 3 meeting.
Council also authorized a municipal tax lien against 28 Hancock Street for the cost of property maintenance ($662.10) performed by township employees.
Elsewhere, Council accepted a Letter of Retirement from Officer Bill Franklin. Minor mentioned that Franklin was not only a police officer, he was your friend. “Franklin was someone that people look up to,” Minor added. “He lives close to us in Gibbstown, so we expect him to still be visiting Logan Township a lot.”
