EAST GREENWICH TWP. — According to a letter from the East Greenwich Mayor Dale Archer emailed to residents of East Greenwich and appearing on FaceBook, a confirmed case of COVID-19 has been reported in the township. No other information on the person was given in this letter.
Because of yesterday’s Executive Order No. 107 issued by New Jersey Gov. Murphy to stay at home and close of all non-essential retail businesses, Archer stated that the Office of Emergency Management for has declared a State of Local Disaster Emergency within the Township.
“While no additional regulations are being adopted at this time, the township is going to actively enforce those measures established by the Governor. The township will continue to monitor the situation and implement additional restrictions as needed,” the letter stated.
He implored the residents to heed the warnings and stay home unless obtaining essential goods or services, seeking medical attention or engaging in outdoor activity.
“All outdoor activity should be limited to your neighborhood and backyard utilizing the appropriate social distancing measures at all times. All township public parks and playgrounds remain closed and will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
“Our township police department will continue to strictly enforce this closure, so I beseech parents to keep children away. To comply with Governor Murphy’s order yesterday, I have instructed the police department to increase patrol and presence within the community developments. The developments have the potential to become a hot bed for transferring the virus to many of our residents unknowingly.
“The Police Department will be actively prompting residents to practice safe social distancing of at least six feet apart. This is especially directed at children and teens in developments whom we continue to see congregating and playing sports.
“Now is the time for our community to come together by giving our neighbors the space and social distancing to ensure we are doing our part to control the spread and take care of our family. We must exercise common sense judgement while engaging our neighbors, friends and family,” he stated.
