Creating Change One Animal At A Time

Girl Scouts animal photo webThe Girl Scout Silver Award is a once in a lifetime opportunity for young women to learn the importance of giving back to their community.

Along the way, many obstacles will come and these responsible, young women will need to devote their time and effort to overcome these obstacles and help the community. These young women will grow to understand what it is like to be involved in their community and will get to experience the reality in which many residents live and work in.

Some of these young women are part of local Girl Scout Troop 61253 and have been working to raise awareness that animals should not be treated harshly. These four girls, Sam Delmar, Ali Elliott, Ali Kim, and Ally Tharp, have been working to make sure several cats and dogs find good homes where they will not experience cruelty of any kind.

The animal shelter from which many animals have gotten adopted, called The Salem County Humane Society Animal Shelter, is a non-kill animal shelter and provides a safe environment for the cats and dogs to live in until they can get adopted.

Specifically, these girls have raised over $500 with the help of the community. The girls have donated many necessities to the Animal Shelter including several cases of wet cat food, several bags of dry cat food, dog treats, catnip, cat treats, tennis balls, dog toys, laser pointers, bleach, disinfectant wipes, paper towels, disposable gloves, trash bags, cat litter, powdered kitten milk, and many blankets.

Recently, the girls generously donated all of the items to the shelter. With the help of Kingsway Regional Middle School, the Swedesboro-Woolwich Parks and Recreation committee, and the animal shelter, this has all been deemed possible. Without their help, the girls would not have succeeded in raising awareness on animal cruelty and helping animals find homes.

Animals are just like people, only smaller and more vulnerable. They need love and respect to truthfully live their life in peace.

If you or anyone you know is interested in adopting, fostering, or volunteering with the animals please contact the Salem County Humane Society Animal Shelter at 856-299-2220 or contact them through salemcountyhumanesociety.org.
