CLARKSBORO — For the past 18 years, hungry people throughout South Jersey have been able to find help and support through the Blessing Store of The Evangelical Methodist Church in Clarksboro. Recipients run the gamut from young families with children to seniors struggling to survive on their Social Security checks.
Now that the holidays are over and we all settle back into the routines of our lives, it is easy to forget that others in the community are suffering from food insecurity.
The Blessing Store is open on the third Saturday of every month. However, no one need ever go hungry. A phone call to the church at 856-423-0289 will be answered and the need fulfilled almost immediately.
No one is ever turned away. Anyone who has knowledge of a needy family can also contact the church office via phone or at www.eumc.church
Continuing to meet that need, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will host another “Contactless Food Drive” on Saturday, Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the church parking lot at 304 Kings Highway in Clarksboro.
While the Blessing Store is happy to accept all donations, things that are often overlooked are shelf stables: milk (you can’t make mac and cheese without milk), tuna and crackers, dish and clothes detergent, paper products and feminine care products. Of course, canned fruit and vegetables, pasta and rice and cereal are all things that are urgently needed. Cash donations are used to supplement the orders with fresh fruit, vegetables, and dairy products.
