Kingsway athletic director recognized for dedication and award

WOOLWICH TWP. – At the March 21 Woolwich Township Committee meeting, committee members noted the dedication of June Cioffi, Kingsway Regional School District’s athletic director, and her recent recognition from the Directors of Athletics Association of New Jersey (DAANJ).

Deputy Mayor Dennis Callahan reported Cioffi was named the DAANJ Sectional Award of Merit recipient, representing the south section of the state.

“If you’re familiar with the high school athletics world, it’s pretty much a man’s world,” Callahan said. “June has been a leader in terms of raising the voices of women in sports.”

Cioffi, a Rowan University graduate, has served on the Olympic Conference Executive Committee and been chairperson of several sports committees. Within the Kingsway School District, Cioffi has seen the creation of the state’s largest girl’s wrestling program, a girl’s golf program, and a dance team.

“She does a great job. She’s top-notch,” Callahan said. “So, congratulations to her.”

Callahan also reports that schools within the Swedesboro-Woolwich School District went mask-optional as of March 6. Since then, the district has since planned and conducted various events such as their Family Fun Night and students’ attendance at DECA summit for leadership.

In February, the district reported a total of 21 COVID cases in comparison to the six reported in March.

During Monday’s meeting, the committee also introduced an ordinance to enact “no parking” areas within the subdivision of High Hill Estates. This ordinance would help open various roads in High Hill Estates that have faced significant traffic issues due to parking on both sides of the street, especially in the instance of emergency vehicles.

A resolution for Woolwich Township to adopt updates within the 2022 Gloucester County New Jersey Hazard Mitigation Plan was tabled at the meeting in order to give the committee ample time to review the changes. This motion was prompted by several suggestions within the plan requiring actions from the township that the committee hopes to review further and gather the cost estimates of.

In a monthly report from Woolwich Police Department, three incidents of stolen vehicles were said to have occurred during March. In each instance, the car was left unlocked with the car’s keys located in the vehicle.

The Woolwich Police Department and township committee advises residents to not leave their keys inside their vehicles– whether the car is locked or not. “It’s best to do your basic due diligence,” Mayor Craig Fredrick said. “And to lock your car and take your keys inside.”
