November 2023 Issue Obituaries

O’LOUGHLIN — Michael A. O’Loughlin, 75.

He knew everybody, everywhere. A quick trip to Wawa would take an hour with Mike sharing stories of his kids and grandkids achievements. Same thing would happen at Acme when he popped in for some lottery tickets.

Mike was a loving father. He was a hockey dad and a dance dad, piling his family in their RV to go from event to event. Mike was always by the sidelines cheering them on. He was the neighborhood dad and the life of the party especially at his yearly Christmastime Open House.

If his TV was on, he’d be yelling at the Phillies, Flyers and the Eagles; don’t be around him on Monday if they lost.

He loved gangster movies and saw the Godfather hundreds of times. Mike loved to tinker with cars: he swapped his corvette in favor of his Granada. Mike loved to cook, especially his chicken marsala. On vacation when everyone else was looking for fine dining, he’d be out tracking down the best dive deli looking for the perfect hoagie.

He spent his retirement years being a stay at home dad and working at Logan Liquors. Mike served our nation in the Army and was a member of the VFW Post 10886.

His job as a Port Authority Police Officer earned him more than just a paycheck. One day he pulled over a pretty girl named Carleen. Then he pulled her over every day until she agreed to go out with him.

They’d share a 36 year marriage blessed by two children, Dr. Amanda Smith (Tom) and Matt (Jacqueline Mattson); and later by grandchildren, Rory, Makayla, Savannah, Mallory and Amelia. He is survived by his siblings, Betty Sgrignoli, Joe (Carol), Eileen Weiser, Marie English (Rick) and Anthony (Tricia).

DUFFY — Rose Marie Duffy (Nee Brill) age 80 years of Mullica Hill, formerly of Bradenton, Florida passed away on Sept. 30, 2023 in Shady Lane Nursing Home, Clarksboro.

She was born and raised in Camden and worked at Delaware Valley Wholesale Florist and later retired from Cooper Interconnect in Salem. Mrs. Duffy enjoyed music and dancing as well as spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Debbie and Lou Sebastiani and Eileen Reed; her many grandchildren and great grandchildren and her brother, John Brill. Mrs. Duffy was predeceased by her husband, Charles Duffy; her son, Bernard Mann; her brother, Albert and her sisters, Dora, Doris, Catherine and Joan.

He was a proud sponsor of a Paulsboro Little League baseball team for over twenty years.

Jim enjoyed spending time at his house in Ocean City, NJ, on his son’s boat fishing, at every Eagles home game since 1977, and most especially with his grandchildren who brought out a special side known only to them as their pop-pop. He would also like to thank Dr. Jose Camacho for his care.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Teresa Sabetta (nee Salvatore); his children, Alex Sabetta (Heather) and Jamie Clement (Steve), his grandchildren, Francesca Marie and Steven James Clement; his sister Janis Sabetta; many loving brothers and sisters-in- law, nieces and nephews, five godchildren, and cousins. O’BRIEN — Barbara L. O’Brien. Barbara was a survivor from her earliest days. Born premature and not supposed to live, her mother’s loving care gave her 79 great years.

If her TV was on, she’d be watching the History Channel and We TV. With the History Channel, she’d be looking for more information about the Civil War. On We TV, she’d be watching Bewitched and all the other oldies.

The First Saturday in May found her glued to the Kentucky Derby. She loved the Royals and everything English, especially Queen Elizabeth. From early morning she’d be listening to Dave Clark 5. And she was a dog lover; for many years her beagle, Sandy, was by her side. She was a cashier at Kmart, sold Amway products, and was the assistant to the secretary at St. Joseph’s School, Swedesboro.

Barbara was the daughter of the late John and Edith O’Brien (nee Holvick) and sister to the late, John Jr. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Kathleen O’Brien; her nephews, Kevin, Shawn (Lindsay) and John; her niece, Heather Arvey (Michael) her cousins, Marjorie Copeland and Aimee Shute and her aide, Mimose, who was with her for ten years, Monday through Friday.

Donations to charity of the donor’s choice will be appreciated.
