LEMKE — Mark D. Lemke Sr. age 64 years of Bridgeport passed away on Aug. 23 in his home. He was born in Camden, raised in Bridgeport, lived in Swedesboro for a few years and returned to Bridgeport in 1989.

Mark worked as a truck driver for Lacy’s Express in Pedricktown. He was a member of the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Company where he was past ambulance captain and also a past member of Woolwich Fire Company. Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, camping, and his pontoon boat.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Betty Lemke (nee Zane) of Bridgeport; his daughter, Karen (Emma) Langjahr of West Deptford; his daughter in law, Taylor (Evan) Lemke; his grandchildren, Dani, Lillyanna and Hank; His brother, Gene (Denise) Lemke of Bridgeport; his special nephew, David (Jess) Chapes of Clayton and a large extended family. Lemke was predeceased by son, Mark D. Lemke Jr. and his sisters, Susie Chapes and Linda Lemke.

Funeral services were held in the McBride-Foley Funeral Home, 228 West Broad Street, Paulsboro. Contributions can be made in his memory to the Bridgeport Fire Company, PO Box 488, Bridgeport, NJ 08014.

FILIAGGI — Albert A. Filiaggi, Jr., of Woolwich Township passed away Aug. 20, one day after his 83rd birthday, at home. Born in Chester, PA, he had recently moved to Woolwich Township coming from Clarksboro.

He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War, and was a Stationary Engineer/Operator for General Electric. Al was a member of St. Michael’s Mutual Club in Gibbstown, DAV in Deptford and was a Commissioner for the Delaware River and Bay Authority.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Susan (Nee Fitzpatrick) Filiaggi, his sons, Chris, Anthony, and Stephen Filiaggi. His grandchildren, Brianna Marie and Quinn Ronald Filiaggi. Arrangements are being handled by the Cheega Funeral Home, Swedesboro.

BUTLER — Gladys Butler, 96, made the most of every situation that came her way. She was born April 1, 1928 to Mabel Layton Gardiner and J. Willard Gardiner of Mullica Hill. She grew up on a dairy farm and continued the farming life when she married Walter H. Butler in 1949.

Together they had four children Corrin, Candace, Walter Jr./Chip, and Kathleen. She loved her children unconditionally, and liked them too. She had 10 grandchildren, and each one was sure that he or she was the special one. Her stepchildren and step-grandchildren and great grandchildren knew she loved every single one of them.

Her farm days were full: from pulling sweet potato sprouts in the spring to delivering some of those sweet potatoes in the fall. Her energies also went into baking birthday cakes and wedding cakes and sewing Christmas and Easter dresses for her daughters.

She sang in the choir at Bethesda United Methodist Church for more than 40 years. A longtime member of Raccoon Valley Swim Club, she enjoyed early summer days at the pool, and supporting the swimming and diving teams.

Gladys was an avid reader and made regular visits to the Swedesboro Public Library. She and Walter danced together beautifully and polkaed with the best.

Gladys lived in South Jersey all of her life, and she loved seeing the rest of the world. After her children left home, she and Walter began their travel adventures through Europe and warm sunny places in the winter. Traveling was wonderful and so was coming home.

Walter died in 1994, and Gladys married Ty Ayars, a fellow Woodstown High School graduate and lifelong friend, in 2004. They enjoyed 10 years of living on the farm, volunteering for the Phillies and more travel adventures.

Gladys is survived by her children Corrin (Bob) Sellen, Walter Jr./Chip, (Annette) Butler and Kathleen (Dave) Clark, son-in-law Bill Dornan, her brother, Willard Gardiner, her stepchildren Donald (Cindy) Ayars and Carolyn (Chris) Shay, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Walter Butler, her second husband Ty Ayars, and her daughter Candace Dornan.

SCHAUB — George Henry Schaub Jr., age 88, of Clarksboro, went to be with the Lord, with his family by his side on Sept. 16. He was born in Mantua, NJ to the late George Henry Schaub Sr. and Anna (nee Dersch).

George is survived by his wife, Florence (nee Wilson) of 65 years; his children, Joyce Skinner, George Schaub III and his wife Heidi, June Sheppard and her husband Allen; grandchildren, Andrew Skinner and his wife Amanda, David Sheppard and his fiancee Alisha, and Sarah Sheppard; great-grandchildren, Delaney and Daxton Skinner; his brother, John; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Katherine Freschcoln, and son-in-law, Thomas Skinner.

George served in the United States Army in Germany for three years where he was a part of the military police. He worked in Local 322 union as a pipefitter for 33 years, retiring at the age of 58.

George enjoyed camping with his family, traveling, gardening, and was an avid hunter. He was a faithful member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Clarksboro for 76 years. George loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
