WOOLWICH TWP. — The pickleball courts, located behind the Woolwich Township building, were the place to be the weekend of Sept. 20 as 100 players and many spectators came from all over to participate in the inaugural Woolwich Pickleball Club (WPC) tournament.
The tournament had six divisions where players (ages 12-72) competed for the coveted WPC Gold Medal.
The winners were: Advanced Women: Marie Selvato, Joanne Roth
Intermediate Women: Lisa Loeber, Kelly Walker
Advanced Men: Craig Frederick, Doug Horton
Intermediate Men: Mike Camarote, Jaden Clemmons
Advanced Mixed: Sheri Wilsey, Frank Fleming
Intermediate Mixed: Lisa Loeber, John Betts
The highlight of the tournament was the official dedication of the pickleball courts honoring five local men killed in action during the Vietnam war – Donald Lee Corbin, Stephano James Fiducioso, Dennis Philip Martin, Robert Edward, Monahon, and William Isaac
In time, the goal is to expand the area into a Veteran’s Memorial Park which could include a playground, basketball courts, beach volleyball, amphitheater, dog park, and a walking path.
Many thanks to the sponsors and volunteers required to make this tournament a weekend to remember.
