Community Helper’s Club: Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. This monthly meeting is to put like-minded tweens and teens together to discuss how to make our communities a better place.  We will be talking about topics such as going green, donating supplies or even helping the elderly. Each month will have a new issue so you can bounce ideas off of each other. Ages 9 to 17. Please register as space is limited.

Quilling Time: Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 11:30 a.m. Quilling is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. Understanding & Optimizing Your Social Security Benefits: Thursday, Sept. 11, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Understand and optimize your Social Security benefits. Learn about the basics of Social Security, different factors that can affect filing, taxation and more. Please register.

Learn Computers: Basic Computer Skills: Thursdays, Aug. 14 through Sept. 18, 2-4 p.m. Do you feel a little lost or left behind when it comes to computers? Build your confidence as we start at the beginning and take it slow, discussing how to use a PC or laptop. Topics include: Logging on, mouse skills, fixing typos, keyboards, saving options, updating and customizing. Please register, and plan to attend all six sessions.

Wooly Wonders: Third Monday of the month from 10:30-12 noon. In this needle felting group, we make small 3D shapes from wool. Whether you’ve never needle felted before or you’re an expert, this group is for you.  All materials provided. Registration required as space is limited.

Tinseltown Tuesdays: Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 5:30 p.m. This month we will be watching Return to Peyton Place (1961), the sequel to the hit 1957 film. With Eleanor Parker, Tuesday Weld, Jeff Chandler, Mary Astor. The residents of Peyton Place are not happy when its most famous resident, Alison Mackenzie, writes a “shocking” novel detailing the sinful secrets of the town. Popcorn provided, please register.

Mystery Book Club: Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. This book club meets each month on the third Wednesday of the month from 2-3 p.m. This month we will be discussing the classic Agatha Christie novel The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. 3D Printer Reservation: Thursday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m.Reserve a 2.5-hour time slot to use the 3D printer in the Logan MakerStudio. NOTE: To use the 3D printer, you must first complete a certification course.

3D Printer Certification: Friday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. & Tuesday, Sept. 16 & Thursday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. Get certified to use our MakerBot Replicator+ 3D printer, and start your own Maker Movement today. Once you’ve completed this 1 hour course, you’ll be able to reserve time to use our 3D Printers at any GCLS location. Please register.

Medicare with Confidence: Monday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. Open Enrollment is fast approaching! This educational seminar will educate you on Medicare basics, important terminology, enrollment periods, plan types available and cost assistance. Medicare is not a one size fits all. Please register.

Harriet Tubman Performance: Monday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. Come see history brought to life! Dr. Daisy Century portrays Harriet Tubman and weaves her life story from birth to the end of her life with a question-and-answer period at the end of the performance. Dr. Century’s performances are educational, inspiring, empowering, transforming and entertaining at the same time.

Mental Health Spotlight: Finding Help in Gloucester County: Friday, Sept. 12 at 11:30 a.m. Join us for our Mental Health Spotlight in support of September’s Suicide Prevention Month. Presentations from Gloucester County agencies, such as the Office of Mental Health, Division of Addiction Services, and NJ4S, will cover where to find help and how to access it. Whether it’s out of concern for yourself, a friend, client, neighbor, or loved one, don’t wait for a crisis to know what resources are available. Registration is preferred.

Dr. Century Presents Hatshepsut: Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. Dr. Daisy Nelson Century is an Historical Interpreter Extraordinaire. She dresses as and gives a presentation of various women throughout history and tells their life story. For this program she will be performing as the Egyptian Pharaoh Hatshepsut. This program is affiliated with the July – September art exhibit currently presented at the Mullica Hill Library, Portraits by Loren Dann. Please register.

How to Read a Painting: Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. Have you ever looked at a painting and wished to understand it more? This lecture serves as a guide to basic visual analysis. We will review some of the more common symbols and tropes seen in Western painting. This lecture provides examples and practice in visual and contextual analysis while examining a variety of artworks. Thinking Money for Kids:  Monday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. Join us for our Thinking Money for Kids – This is a grant received from ALA (American Library Association) and FINRA (Investor Education Foundation. Children will play games that teach money skills and engage them with financial topics — like saving, spending, sharing, and budgeting — in a way that is both meaningful and fun. Be sure to register. Best for ages 5 to 12.

FURever as Friends: Monday, Sept. 15 at 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Read to one of our adorable therapy animals. Each child will be given a 10-15 minute time slot. All ages.

Take-Home Activities:

Read and Do Bags!:  Limited to one per child, each bag contains 2 to 3 library books, a coloring page, and a simple craft you can do with your child at home. Different themes are available while supplies last. Please bring your bag to the circulation desk for checkout.

Grab and Go Kits for Children: Limited to one per child, each bag includes simple crafts you can do at home! There will be two new crafts per month. First-come, first-served, while supplies last. 

Adult Programs:

Talk Saves Lives: Monday, Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. This program is for adults & teens: The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention program is a community-based presentation. It covers the general scope of suicide, the research on prevention, and what people can do to help save lives. Space is limited, please register.

Needle Arts: Wednesdays, Sept. 10 & 24 at 6:30 p.m. Crochet, knit, or sew your own project or select one of ours. Call 856-467-0111 for more information.

Charcuterie Class:  Monday, Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m. Learn how to design a charcuterie board! All materials will be provided. Space is limited, registration is required.

House Plant Swap: Monday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m. Bring a plant, take a plant! Propagate overgrown house plants or bring duplicate plants to trade for a house plant refresh. Register at gcls.org.

Page Turners Adult Book Club: Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. Join us for lively discussions on an interesting selection of books. This month’s title is James by Percival Everett.  Call 856-467-0111 for more information.
