Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

A magical world of wizardry, fantasy, and wonder, the Harry Potter series is indubitably one of the most famous sagas of all time, and on Dec. 4, 5, and 6, our Kingsway Theatre Program put on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Continuing the story 19 years after the books, and focusing on Harry’s son, Albus, and Draco’s son, Scorpius, this Broadway play featured incredible stage magic, sets, and storytelling, brought to life by Kingsway’s talented cast, crew, and directors, Mr. Andrew Young and Ms. Lauren Barr.

Dominic (Dom) Traini, who played Scorpius Malfoy, is a senior in Kingsway’s theatre program, reflecting on his time in Kingsway’s plays, ever since his freshman year. This year, he felt challenged by his character, Scorpius Malfoy, was unhappy with his performance, and worried about his portrayal of the character. However, through the encouragement of Mr. Young, Ms. Barr, and Mason Corey, he began to feel confident again, trusting himself as an actor. His incredible performance was unforgettable, earning immense applause throughout the night. What a way to end his senior play!

Dom also wanted to thank senior Mason Corey for his remarkable work on set design and lighting for the show. Mason’s contributions as both cast and crew have elevated every show.

His efforts in bringing together the technical elements of the show got such a wide audience for the show. Dom even adds, “We’d literally have folding chairs and a singular light without him.” Mason’s spectacular impact on Kingsway’s program does not go unnoticed.

An avid enjoyer of the positive environment of Kingsway’s drama department, Avery Forst, who played Delphi Diggory, loved making friendships while working towards creating a fantastic performance. Through the supportive atmosphere, she found herself able to learn and grow in a variety of ways. She encourages anyone to try it out and be confident in themselves.

Kamiah Schofield, a senior part of the run crew, reflected on the play’s magic on and off the stage. After all the effort and hard work that was put into making it, she was happy to see the payoff.

Despite setbacks and difficulties, the team was able to manage and continue as if they had not occurred in the first place. As it is her last production, Kamiah feels it is bittersweet, but she knows that though the show is over, the memories will last not only for them, but also for the audience a lifetime.

This incredibly magical play is not only one for the books of the crew and cast, but it was one that every audience member will resonate with for years to come. Kingsway’s productions continue to achieve magnificent levels each year.

Until next play, let us reminisce on the magical world of Hogwarts. May the magic bring us good memories and light in the New Year.

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and directors of the Harry Potter Cursed Child play on another show-stopping performance!
