WHAT TO DO ABOUT DEER CARCASSES

WOOLWICH TWP. — The autumn breeding season for deer is over, but they are still crossing roads to try and find winter food. If you and your vehicle meet up with one of them, or you have a deer carcass alongside your road, you can get it removed.

For deer carcass removal, residents can contact the Gloucester County Highway Division. They will remove them from the right of way on county and municipal roadways. The carcasses will be removed within 48 hours of the time reported.

Deer carcasses will not be removed from private property. State highway removals will be done by the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

To report a carcass, call (856) 307-6400 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. After hours and weekends call (856) 589-0911.

The county will only pick up deer carcasses.

Remember, deer usually travel in herds so the deer that you see may not be last one trying to cross the roadway.
