Tickets on sale for Senior Picnic This year’s theme is ‘Down by the Sea’

WOODBURY — The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced that this year’s Annual Senior Citizen Picnic will feature the theme ‘Down by the Sea’.  The picnic will be held on Sept. 10 (rain date Sept. 11), from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Red Bank Battlefield Park, National Park.

The picnic is open to residents 60 years and older.  Tickets are $2 each and are available at the Division of Senior Services at 115 Budd Blvd, West Deptford and the County’s six Nutrition sites.  The ticket price helps defray the cost of the event, which is funded with the Title III Older Americans Act area grant.

Lunch, music and entertainment and dance contests will be presented throughout the day.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said that of all the events he attends in the County each year, the Senior Picnic is one of his favorites.  “Gloucester County has active seniors and each year I get energized by attending the Senior Picnic.  These residents know how to have a good time,” Damminger said.

Damminger said, “We hold this annual picnic so people can learn about services and programs that are available in a fun venue and has become a tradition that our seniors look forward to,” Damminger stated.

Freeholder Lyman Barnes, Liaison to the Division of Senior Services said, “Our staff services thousands of seniors a year and the picnic provides a day that is fun, social and educational.  About 1800 seniors attend the event each year and it is great for everyone to see old friends and meet new ones too.”

Barnes said that Gloucester County is home to 51,470 residents aged 60 and older.

For additional information please contact the Nutrition office 686- 8327. There will be no regular nutrition sites held the day of the picnic.
