EAST GREENWICH TWP. — Over the course of two weekends in November, Cub Scouts from Pack 59 out of East Greenwich canvassed neighborhoods as part of the annual “Scouting for Food” program.

The boys, ranging in ages 5 to 10, first distributed the empty bags on Nov. 16 and then collected them full of food donations on Nov. 23.

All food collected was donated to Your Place at the Table food pantry at Trinity United Methodist Church in Mullica Hill.

“We were overwhelmed at the outpouring of community support for the food drive,” said Cubmaster Todd Bretz. “We were able to fill an empty room with food donations, making it a much better holiday for many in our local community.”

The boys also enjoyed the experience, and couldn’t believe their own eyes at how much food they collected. “It was fun going house to house with my friends and collecting the bags,” said seven year old Jack Murphy.

Due to the huge success of the drive, the scouts will likely hold another drive this spring when food pantry supplies are their lowest.
