Old Stone Church Strawberry Festival, June 4

UntitledWOOLWICH TWP. – Join in for food and fellowship, enjoying delicious strawberries, short cake and ice cream outdoors under large shade trees with the 27th annual Old Stone Church Strawberry Festival taking place on June 4 from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Old Stone Church is located approximately two miles north west of Swedesboro at the intersection of Stone Meeting House Road and Oak Grove Road. It can be found by taking Oak Grove Road north approximately three quarters of a mile from Route 322.

The festival is sponsored by the Bethesda United Methodist Church in Swedesboro, which preserves and maintains the old church building, grounds and cemetery and works to introduce people to the history of the church and of our ancestors who worshipped there. Old Stone was built in 1793 and is one of the oldest Methodist Churches in South Jersey.

It remains very much the same today as it was 224 years ago, still lit only by oil lamps and warmed by only the body heat of the worshippers. The Church and cemetery will be open for viewing throughout the event.

Ticket price is only $6 for adults and children 10 and over, and $3 for children under 10. The festival is a fundraiser toward the preservation of the church. Tickets can only be purchased at Old Stone during the event.

In the event of inclement weather, the festival will be held at Bethesda United Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall, in Swedesboro at Kings Highway and Railroad Avenue (467-0127).
