CLAYTON — Third dose vaccinations are now available to immunocompromised at the Gloucester County COVID-19 vaccination Site.
Physicians report that people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised are especially vulnerable to COVID-19 because they are more at risk of serious, prolonged illness and may benefit from an additional COVID-19 dose to make sure they have enough protection against the virus.
CDC recommends people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised should receive an additional COVID-19 vaccine dose after the initial 2 doses and at least 28 days after a second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine has been administered.
At this time, the Gloucester County Vaccination Site is only able to administer the Pfizer-BioNTech third dose. A request has been made by the county to receive Moderna and the public will be updated when additional vaccine is received.
The CDC notes patients and doctors should decide who needs an extra dose and what the timing of that dose should be. No prescription or doctor’s note will be needed. Individuals must attest their need for the third dose.
Immunocompromised includes people who have:
* Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
* Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
* Received a stem cell transplant within the last two years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
* Possess moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
* Possess advanced or untreated HIV infection
* Undergoing active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

The Gloucester County COVID-19 Vaccination Site is located at the Gloucester County Public Work Complex, 1200 N. Delsea Dr. Clayton 08312. No appointments are necessary.
