Kingsway 9U Youth Football Team Brings National Recognition

EAST GREENWICH — On Feb. 8, players, coaches, parents, grandparents, and fans of the 9U Kingsway Dragons youth football team descended on the East Greenwich Township Municipal Building to congratulate the team on its 2021 MAD 215 Spring League Championship, 2021 AAU Spring National Championship, 2021 MAD 215 Fall League Championship, and the 2021 AAU Fall National Championship.

At its regularly scheduled Township Committee meeting, Mayor Dale Archer and Township Committee added another honor to the Kingsway Dragons 9U Championship youth football team. Mayor Archer, flanked by members of the Township Committee, Head Coach Demetrios “Jim” Law, and his assistant coaches, presented individual certificates to each player and a Proclamation to the team. Archer announced that the governing body designated Feb. 8 as 9U Kingsway Dragons Youth Football National Champions Day.

A proud head coach Demetrios “Jim” Law and his coaching staff have led the team to a 28-game winning streak. This winning streak spanned over two seasons, resulting in two Regional AAU Championships and two National AAU Championships.

“They have traveled to numerous states together. They were living on the road and winning football games, an adventure that these young players, their parents, and their coaches will cherish always. They will forever be teammates and friends. A bond forged from playing Kingsway Youth Football,” reads a post on the Kingsway Youth Football Facebook page.

Before the presentation of the Proclamation, Archer, a father of two, said, “I am 53 years old, and I will tell you, I have never won a championship. You guys are 9 and have won many already”.

He acknowledged the many championships won by the team and provided some advice for their future. He went on to talk about winning and losing and remaining dedicated to hard work.

“Our coaches and parents stand firmly committed to promoting youth football as another tool for our player’s success, in preparing for their future academic success as responsible citizens dedicated to developing a life game plan for their future and their ability to compete in a global economy,” Law said, with a proud smile.
