Visit Historic Homes During Mullica Hill’s Holiday House Tour

MULLICA HILL – Back from a two year hiatus, the 47th Annual Historic Mullica Hill Christmas House Tour will take place on Dec. 10 from 3 to 7 p.m.

Nine private homes, three churches and historic buildings will be open for your eyes to behold the wonder of Christmas past. Some of the homes are period decorated, some are eclectic. There will be a wide range of homes dating from the 1700’s to the early 1900’s.

Fan favorites are back as well as three homes brand new to our tour. A 1700’s Salt Box is one of our drive to only homes and located in Commissioners Road, four minutes from Main. Bea and Jim Buckley have graciously offered to open at 2 p.m. so visitors can come see them before hitting Main Street at 3 p.m. when the tour officially starts.

This home is definitely worth the drive. It features several levels as well as a beautiful historic barn that sits on the property. A beautiful 1800’s farm house with historic barn on Harrisonville Road and another home right across the street are the other drive to only homes, only three minutes from Main.

Another beautiful farm house and new to our tour sits just off Main located on East Church St. Around the corner from Serendipity 19 and Artisan Marshmallow and is easy to walk to. This home is new to our tour, and we are super excited!

A shuttle will be on the street to take you from North to South and back again.

Downtown you will be treated to the Spicer House, a true fan favorite, home of Jeffrey S. Downs, Esquire, and a special treat from Brew X Bread, his coffee house recently opened by him and his partner, Joanna Papadaniil.

Stop by Flossy’s Boutique to view cookie house displays and vote for your favorite. There will be live music, open house treats at many shops, reindeer games and photo spots throughout town. “We will all be decorated in holiday splendor and the sights and sounds of the season will take you inside a Hallmark movie. We hear that all the time,” said a host for 20 years, Hazel Dilsaver.

“The town is over 300 years old, and there is so much charm in the architecture and the shops. This event is great way to bring people to town and see what we have to offer. You can’t replicate what we have here. It just can’t be done.”

Many shops like Farm House Design, a home furnishings and gifts shop, or Farm House Table, both which belong to Dilsaver, will have specialty items just for that night. Live music, yard games and photo spots all to make the season bright.

At Farm House Table, you can have custom gift baskets made or if you’re in a hurry grab a pre-made one. Cheese is on the menu here so stop by on Saturdays for sampling where they will be trying jams and cheeses.

Mademoiselle Macaron will be hosting a special event for the day and holiday flavored macarons are coming. Reservations required for afternoon tea or just a sandwich and don’t forget that special holiday event. Call for details 856-478-8176.

Mullica Hill has over 25 specialty and antique shops, restaurants and a coffee house with wine tasting room. Time Fine Mens Store has the gift for every man in your life, The Perfect Blend for special blend teas and olive oils, Ginger and May has kitchen gadgets, Designed for You has decor, Flossy’s, The Dressing Room on Main and Annie’s Cranny has ladies fashions, and there is still more.

But now on to the why. Like all Mullica Hill events, money is raised through ticket sales and all the profits made are donated to charities. The Christmas House Tour and photos and s’mores with Santa are held to raise funds for children’s charities like Acenda Health, Wholesome Riches and the food pantry at Holy Name of Jesus Church, right here in town.

Tickets are $15 each and nonrefundable. You can go online to mhnjevents.com or call 856-223-5440 for tickets and more info.

For Photos and S’mores with Santa there will be a decorated antique sled with back drop this year. Children can pose with Santa, tell him their Christmas wishes and take family photos. There will be live music and photo spots as well.

This event is held Dec. 17 and 18 from 12 to 4 p.m. at Farm House Design this year. Tickets are $6 each and everyone in the photo is required to have a ticket. Children will receive a S’more kit to be roasted by the bonfire. Tickets are limited. That’s always a lot of fun.

Bring an unwrapped toy for a 20 percent discount at Farm House Design. Lots of old fashioned free family fun still to be had as well.

Visit every Saturday in December for a Merry Mullica Hill Christmas for Reindeer Games, photo spots, live music and story time with the elves. Shop local, shop small and have fun while doing it. That and giving back is our goal.

  1. I thought Saint Stephens Episcopal Church was also on the tour. It is a key structure in the Mullica Hill Historic district, and is always decorated in a modest style keeping with the history of the church.
