ST. PETER’S COMMUNITY PANTRY NEWS

CLARKSBORO — This past month has been one of highs and lows for St. Peter’s Community Pantry.

First and foremost, the Pantry celebrated its second anniversary as an up and coming, highly successful food pantry, serving the residents of the Gloucester County Community. We began by serving 31 families in May of 2023, and today we reach nearly 150 families every month.

The Pantry continues to be well supported by the community both through cash donations and in-kind donations at our Pantry, and at our off-site Shop Rite Food Drives in both Mullica Hill and Woolwich.

The Pantry was faced with its first truly significant challenge this month. During a food drive, it was discovered that our new outdoor walk-in freezer was not working.

What was first thought to have been a malfunction of the freezer unit, turned out to have been created by a power surge which shut down the condenser unit. As a result, we lost over 1,000 pounds of food.

When the news was relayed on social media, members of the community immediately donated checks to help us purchase some of the food that was destroyed. These checks were a blessing to us as we were approaching a food distribution and had little to provide to our clients.

Of course, we are still rebuilding our freezer inventory, so donations are always welcome.

Chicken BBQ

The Pantry will be hosting its Third Annual Chicken BBQ on Saturday, July 26 from 3 to 6 p.m.  Your dinner will be ready for pick up just by driving through the parking lot. The meal will consist of half of a BBQ chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, roll and butter and a brownie for dessert. This is an amazing price for a full-size dinner at only $16.

Tickets are available online at www.stpetersclarksboro.org. or by calling the church office at 856-423-4116. We use Zeffy for online and phone orders.

A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase on the day of the BBQ on a first come, first served basis. We highly recommend that you pre-order your tickets so that dinners are available when you come to the Pantry.

Looking ahead, St. Peter’s Community Pantry will be hosting a magic show for the entire family in the early Fall. Keep your eyes open for more information.
