LOGAN TWP. – According to Logan Township Police Department, at 10:55 a.m. on March 29, they responded to the Repaupo section of the township in the area of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park for reports of several motor vehicle complaints including vehicles in the area speeding, passing unsafely, racing, and passengers riding on vehicles.
They learned that an unpermitted event named “Import Expo” was taking place at the Motorsports Park, with no prior notice nor approval to Logan Township nor their public safety officials. The area rapidly became inundated with motorists from as far away as Massachusetts and Virginia.
The park quickly exceeded its capacity and an estimated 25,000 individuals parked wherever they chose, exited their vehicles, and began walking to the venue.
Mutual Aid assets from throughout the region were requested to assist with traffic and crowd control. In addition to the motor vehicle violations, there were reports of public intoxication, public urination, lewdness, disorderly conduct, littering and numerous fights took place.
An emergency alert message was sent out with the assistance of the Gloucester County Office of Emergency Management advising individuals in the area to disperse. That order was subsequently lifted around 6:44 p.m.
One male was taken into custody, charged with Disorderly Conduct, and released pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court. Several Municipal Ordinance violations will also be filed.
