EAST GREENWICH TWP. — The 2026 budget for East Greenwich will not have a local municipal tax increase. The final budget is scheduled for a public hearing and adoption at the township’s May 26 committee meeting.
“Despite continued economic challenges and rising costs facing municipalities throughout the state, the township has remained committed to responsible financial planning while continuing to invest in critical infrastructure, public safety, and community improvements,” stated East Greenwich Mayor Jim Philbin.
The 2026 budget includes pay raises, upgrades, and capital investments in the township. The Water and Sewer Department will continue improvements to the water system including upgraded water meter reading technology that will alert residents about uncommon water usage and help identify potential leaks sooner.
According to Philbin, the Department of Public Works budget includes roadway improvements to Timberline Road, the purchase of a 2025 trash truck, stormwater mapping initiatives, a new fuel pump controller and card system, and a new municipal digital sign at the township building as we continue to improve communication with our residents.
The Police Department budget, according to Philbin, includes enhancements to officer safety and public safety operations through the purchase of stop sign LED lights, bulletproof vests, security cameras, additional portable radios, as well as vehicle upfits that will also include in car camera systems and radar equipment.
The Fire Department budget provides funding for a new F450 utility vehicle, turnout gear and uniforms, hose replacement, extrication tools, radios, and additional rescue equipment to ensure the department remains properly equipped to respond to emergencies.
In addition, stated Philbin, the Township’s Office of Emergency Management will move forward with plans for a new 50’ x 125’ outbuilding that will serve a dual purpose with one half dedicated to OEM operations, and the other half utilized as a community center.
“The Township Committee remains focused on balancing fiscal responsibility while maintaining and improving the services our residents rely upon every day. We appreciate the continued support of our residents as we work to responsibly invest in the future of East Greenwich Township,” stated Philbin.
