To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to recognize Officer Michael Kemp for the extraordinary compassion, dedication, and support he has shown not only to my daughter, Layla, but to our entire community.
This past year has been one of the hardest our family has ever faced. Layla, who happens to have Down Syndrome and is a senior at Kingsway High School, experienced seizures for the first time in her life, fainting episodes, and repeated medical emergencies at school. During those frightening moments, Officer Kemp was there. He stayed by her side during emergencies, offering comfort and calm during times when our hearts were aching.
What makes Officer Kemp so exceptional is that his care did not stop once the emergency ended. He formed a genuine connection with Layla and became someone she trusted deeply, a safe face in a place that had become very difficult for her emotionally. He would look for Layla in the mornings, check on her, and make her feel seen and important. In many ways, he gave her a reason to come back to school during a time when she was struggling tremendously.
Officer Kemp also went above and beyond outside of the school day. He showed up to Unified Track meets simply to cheer on Layla and her classmates. [He was] a face I could turn to when I needed to step away for call but still required observation over Layla. Those moments mattered more than words can fully express. They reminded our family that there are still people who lead with kindness, compassion, and genuine care for others.
I will never forget seeing him standing outside in well over 100 degrees heat, fully dressed in uniform, still smiling and supporting students without hesitation. That image perfectly represents the type of person he is someone who gives his best to others every single day without asking for recognition in return.
Beyond the school, Officer Kemp is known throughout the community as a smiling face, a trusted presence, and someone people are genuinely thankful to see. He offers support freely, treats people with kindness, and represents the very best qualities of law enforcement and public service.
It is my sincere hope that Officer Kemp can receive some form of public recognition for the outstanding service he provides every day. The impact he has made on our family, especially during one of the darkest and most difficult periods of our lives, is something we will never forget.
We also would like to acknowledge Officer [Peter] Massing who has been a positive role model and support within a Kingsway High School.
We would truly have been lost without their support.
