WOOLWICH TWP. — According to Woolwich Township Mayor Natalie Matthias, Gloucester County has approved the installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Paulsboro Road and Kings Highway.
According to Gloucester County Commissioner Matthew Weng, the traffic study of the Kings Highway/Paulsboro Road intersection was complete in December 2024, concluding that a traffic signal was warranted.
Preliminary design plans have been received by the New Jersey Department of Transportation for review. Approval is expected within the next month.
The final steps according to Weng, are to acquire right of way from the former gas station on the corner of Glen Echo Road, and finalizing a cost-sharing agreement with Woolwich Township.
Weng said that construction is anticipated to begin in early 2027.
Matthias said that information and schematics of the traffic light will be posted on the township
website once they are available.
Traveling from the southern end of Swedesboro through Mt. Royal on Kings Highway, there will be seven traffic lights, one roundabout, and one flashing light.
Roundabout – Kings Highway/Woodstown Road/Center Square Road/Old Kings Highway in Swedesboro.
Blinking light 4 Way Stop – Tomlin Station Rd./Kings Hwy. in Mickleton.
Traffic lights – In Swedesboro, Kings Hwy./Lake Ave./Auburn Rd., and Kings Hwy./Glen Echo Ave. In Woolwich Twp. (to be installed) Kings Hwy./Paulsboro Rd., and Kings Hwy./Route 322. In East Greenwich, Kings Hwy./Cedar Rd. in Mickleton, Kings Hwy./Cohawkin Rd. in Clarksboro, and Kings Hwy./Berkley/Mantua Rds. in Mt. Royal.
At this point, only the Kings Hwy./Wolfert Station Rd. intersection is without any sort of traffic calming devices.
