EAST GREENWICH —The East Greenwich Council approved several purchases to enhance its emergency service units at their Sept. 8 council meeting.
The council approved an approximately $36,000 purchase of seven portable radios for the fire department, as well as an approximately $24,000 purchase of surveillance equipment on Sept. 22. The surveillance equipment includes two new cameras to replace the one of the departments existing cameras.
Additionally, the council approved over $20,000 in grant applications for the fire department for the purchase of new gas meters. Thus far, the volunteer fire department has applied for over $89,000 to support its volunteers.
Also at the Sept. 8 meeting, members approved a resolution granting Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity (Habitat for Humanity) a right-of-entry and property access to 265 Kings Highway. According to the resolution, Habitat for Humanity is seeking to conduct site inspections and surveys to evaluate the potential for residential development. Philbin said that the location is part of the township’s round four fair share housing obligation.
The council also appointed a total of four new people to its Parks and Recreation Committee this month, including Mike Scanzano (one-year term), Brent Rathof (two-year term), Paul Applegate (two-year term), and Kourtney McClintock as an alternate member (two-year term).
