Woolwich Brings the Community Together for Better Health

WOOLWICH TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The Township of Woolwich, through its new Health and Wellness Committee, is inviting residents to take part in programs designed to make healthy living more accessible and connected.

Its first initiatives include a community Health and Wellness Fair, monthly walks with the Mayor, and a virtual Healthy Holidays program. Established in July 2026, the committee brings health education, wellness resources and community activities closer to home. Its goal is to help residents prevent illness, improve well-being, and build healthier everyday habits.

“These programs are designed to give residents practical, accessible ways to improve their health while connecting with neighbors,” said Dr. Pavani Gunda, chair of the Woolwich Township Health and Wellness Committee. “A healthier community starts with each of us, and we are excited to build that together in Woolwich.”

Guided by the message “Stronger Health, Stronger Community,” the committee’s approach is simple: “Prevent. Promote. Empower. Together.” Programs will address preventive care, nutrition, physical activity, mental and emotional well-being, health education, healthy lifestyles and social connection, with residents’ needs and interests helping shape the agenda.

Health and Wellness Fair

The Woolwich Township Health and Wellness Fair will be held Sunday, Oct. 25 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Woolwich Township Municipal Building, 120 Village Green Drive.

Local health professionals, wellness groups and community organizations will share information and connect residents with available resources. Attendees can ask questions, explore services and learn practical ways to support their own health and their families’ well-being.

Wednesday Walks With the Mayor

The committee also is launching Wednesday Walks With the Mayor, a monthly initiative led by Mayor Natalie Matthias that combines physical activity with conversation and community connection.

The first walk, a special Gratitude Walk, will begin Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 8 a.m. at Locke Avenue Park. Participants will be invited to reflect on the people, places and experiences they appreciate.

After the inaugural event, walks will be held on the first Wednesday of each month at 8 a.m. at Locke Avenue Park, giving residents a simple way to get moving, meet neighbors and start the day together.

Healthy Holidays Virtual Program

In December, local health and wellness providers will present a virtual Healthy Holidays program focused on whole person health during the holiday season.

Topics will include nutrition, physical activity, stress management, sleep, mental and emotional well-being, and maintaining healthy habits during a busy time of year. The virtual format will allow residents to participate from home and take away practical ideas for daily life.

Looking Ahead

The committee plans to develop additional educational programs, community activities and partnerships throughout 2027. Residents’ interests and needs will help guide these offerings throughout the year.

It also hopes to collaborate with local schools, businesses, community organizations, health professionals and residents to create meaningful, accessible opportunities and make wellness part of everyday community life.

Get Involved

Residents are encouraged to attend upcoming activities, share ideas and suggest health topics, community resources or wellness programs that would benefit Woolwich.

By working together, residents, local organizations and community leaders can help make Woolwich a healthier, more connected place to live, work, and raise a family. For information about committee activities or events, email healthywoolwich@gmail.com.
